Issue is Value City is booked and the new Corvelli Center is open for OSU Olympic sports that are in season and occupied St John. The key is also that OSU is on Spring Break which will free up parking. This is only a short term deal, regardless of what fans and the Association would like.

Does anyone know if OU/Athens has ever put in a bid to host any state championships?

I realize they would probably not be as attractive as some of the other collegiate/pro facilities around the state that are in larger metro areas as there are not as many hotels, restaurants, etc. and also would be a decent drive for 75%+ of the participating schools.

Only ones we would be suited to hold would be Volleball and Wrestling, and lack of hotel space is a big prohibitive issue. With Volleyball you also have the issue that OHIO Athletics teams would not have anywhere to go for 4.5 days.

Another member of this board would be much more suited to ask though.

Excited to see it back there. Hoping it moves there full-time.

I hate the Schott. Hate, hate, hate, hate it. It may have the worst accoustics of any arena I've ever been in.

I always say it feels like going to Costco in its lack of intimacy, except I didn't leave with free food samples and a five-gallon vat of mayonnaise.

Could not agree more that the Schott is a terrible room for not only basketball but also concerts and shows. Nationwide Arena destroys the Schott in all aspects. Looking forward to the Buckeyes playing Kent State at St. John's this fall.

This is something we can certainly agree on. Other than the Club level areas, it's a dreadful basketball building. Simply put, they built it way too big, with next to no character in the architecture.

I’ve never seen them mentioned in the past as a bidder. Being in one of the isolated corners of the state doesn’t help, most everything is within an hour of I-71 for championships.

They used to do OHSAA playoff football games at Peden, I went to a regional championship there in 2005 or 2006. I don’t know if Schaus stopped that (start of his tenure roughly aligns with no more games at Peden), or if it just fell out of favor over the years with N-Y and Athens getting turf over that period. With November MACtion games, lord knows there’s never an Ohio game on a Friday or Saturday to render it unavailable.

Obviously the Convo has a ton of OHSAA basketball playoffs still.

Schaus had nothing to do with Peden no longer hosting football games. And no OHIO University and the City has never bid on hosting a State Championship. A movement was trying to get started a couple years ago on a sport, however the Chamber and Visitors Bureau did not seem interested in helping put together a bid.
