I understand he is going to get an abortion in hopes of getting reinstated earlier.

I’m just curious if the woman he got the urine sample from knew she was pregnant before this

It was his girlfriend so I guess that was a second surprise.

I hadn't seen that. Really that's for the best: could have made for an awkward situation at home if his significant other is NOT pregnant and he still somehow showed up with pregnant-testing urine.

Dude he smokes marijuana. The same stuff 80% of college athletes medicate with.

Perhaps the WNBA would still take him.

For what it's worth, male urine samples can trigger positive pregnancy tests, and when they do it's often a sign of testicular cancer.

Hopefully that's been ruled out.

Impressive medical knowledge. Post of the month at least. For trivia this rivals and actually surpasses some of my Civil War musing. And, in addition, it's actually relevant to the discussion! ;-)

Has it been confirmed that the urine sample came from his "girlfriend"? Or possibly which one, and was this a surprise to any/all/"other"? Could be messier than anyone may realize....

I'll never understand why old-timers view marijuana like its an addictive opioid.

Think the bigger issue here is DJs decision making. Not the fact that he likes to smoke a little pot.

I’m not really talking about MJ, just his ongoing issues with stuff while he’s trying to play pro ball. He needs to do what it takes that’s legal or legit to see that he plays the game he loves. Falsifying lab results is probably not the thing to do.

I think you’re way off if you think 80% of athletes use marijuana. How can that possibly be right with the testing that goes on?

Agreed. My bet is that the number of atheletes smoking dope iisn't much higher than the general student population which is well short of 80%.

I'm guessing the pro basketball numbers are around three-quarters, yes.

(Snorts)

I'm sure Adam Silver is having testers bust into their hotel rooms unannounced at 1 a.m. so he can bust the guys who make his league all its money.

The NBA has absolutely no incentive to do real testing for marijuana. Especially with Silver at the helm, the guy who is at the forefront of gambling in sports and player empowerment.

I think he's going to let the players go too far and get burnt here in the near future, but he shows no signs of ever being David Stern's right-hand man.

It's been really hard for me to square the fact that Sports Illustrated is now a third-rate product. I'm never going to stop seeing it as the pinnacle, the place everybody wanted to work, the place that made me fall in love with the written word.

But it's gone and saying it's a shell of itself would be being kind. Their reporters used to arrive to games in limos. Now I wouldn't be surprised if they're farming out content to unpaid people within the year.

Has it been publicly confirmed anywhere that DJ was falsifying his urine test because he was worried he would test positive for THC, as opposed to testing positive for PEDs?

In practice, of course, that's a distinction without a difference, as he is now a drug cheat in the eyes of FIBA and WADA, unfortunately.

If top level professionals in the big American sports (particularly NFL, but no doubt including NBA, MLB, and NHL) were subject to WADA testing, I suspect a HUGE percent would test positive for banned substances.
