Related Reminder: Never trust people who put chocolate chili on hot dogs and noodles.
There are two kinds of people in this world: Those that like Skyline (or...cough...Goldstar), and those that are wrong. #RaisedOnSkyline

I lived in Cincinnati for 10 years and will never understand how people thought either of those were the best. Camp Washington Chili and Blue Ash Chili are the real OGs.
Blue Ash Chili ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I do miss it.

That Gold Star is nasty. Bought some drive thru in MIlford one day and it was not edible.
I say stick to the Montgomery Inn stuff.

the rankings:

Gold Star
Camp Washington
Dixie
Blue Ash
Price Hill Chili
Skyline

Skyline is good for coneys but abysmal for 3 ways, too much slop water under the noodles.

Not sure why anyone calls that stuff chili. Chili has beans in it and is eaten with a spoon out of a bowl.

My daughter and I are planning a tour of Cincinnati to include three destinations: record shops, coffee shops, and chili shops. That might take two full days!

My favorite "chili" has no beans - Chile Verde

We grew up (and still do) eating my mom's "Cincinnati" style chili with a spoon and out of a bowl

A Five-way includes beans. They're willing to give you a spoon if you ask. 😉

The Cincy caravan is the first time I have seen Frank untucked in public. He seems to be more progressive every year. Last year it was the beard. Good Lord what could be next?

For Schaus:

How much effort has gone into asking the community for help in operations, as budgets get tighter and tighter? Is this even possible with liability and union employee issues at play? There are so many little, inexpensive fixes that could be done to Peden Stadium and the Convo that would help improve gameday experience, from a coat of paint to certain areas, to powerwashing concrete to simply sweeping up in corners of the stadium. Just little things that elevate the experience. And does he feel there are people who would be willing to volunteer to help with these things?

I've always wondered if we weren't under-utilizing a group of people who would like to take action rather than just complain about things. Then I've always wondered if there were reasons we didn't or if I'm overestimating the number of people who would like to help.
Schaus would tell you that he has no control over facilities maintenance, etc. I've been a strong advocate of painting areas of Peden and was told those decisions come from above.
Thanks. I figured there was something I was missing there.
Maybe not control, but I’m sure Schaus has input into facilities recommendations. If not that would be a pretty bad bureaucracy to not even listen to your athletic director.
Agreed. The things that were mentioned (or are always mentioned) aren't even budget busters or things that should require a vote at the Board of Directors. We're talking paint, more effective exterior lighting, power washing and some sweeping, and some better promotional banners inside and outside.
Schaus is correct. Facilities Management determines lights, painting and sweeping. Parking Services runs/owns the parking lots. OUPD does security - yellow jackets, bomb dogs, no cars under the convo during men's games and the reason we can't walk up to and around the outside/covered concourse level . And they will run their departments as they want - not interested in other ideas. It would take a presidential intervention to change that. Short of that Schaus's hands are tied. I retired from O.U. , been that way for many years.
I believe that it would take presidential intervention. What I'm curious about is what Jim has said to Nellis to get some relief in some of those areas adn why there isn't room for some sort of compromise. Because we all know there's no good reason for the quantity of yellow shirts, and the blockades all around the building.
Heck campus rec can't even get facilities to mow the golf course rough at a decent height.
I'll just hit quote without looking who the poster is and bet my paycheck it's Swank

Do you have a list of stops yet?

I assume you have Shake It in Northside and Everybody's in Pleasant Ridge on your list? Not far from Camp Washington Chili while in Northside and literally a few shops down from Shake It is The Blue Jay Restaurant. A nice dive with great breakfast that also serves chili. Pleasant Ridge Chili is just a few blocks from Everybody's. It's cash only so come prepared if you go.

Everyone who likes Blue Ash Chili can have mine-just don't care for it.

For those who are Cincinnati-style chili aficionados....sadly there is only one Empress Chili left in the Greater Cincy area. There was one holding on over in Western Hills but it closed several months ago (I last ate there last summer). The only one still open is in Alexandria, Kentucky (not too far from NKU). Once upon a time, they were a legit competitor to Gold Star and Skyline IMHO.

I grew up eating at The Chili Company-great cottage fries and that torpedo chili-so sad they are gone.

U.S. Chili-right across the street from Camp Washington, is going to be closing soon, too. It might happen even sooner with a recent hepatitis A case with an employee.

Did anyone ever eat at Seven Hills Chili-not far from Hamilton Avenue at I-275? We had some family friends who owned and operated it. Been closed for well over 20 years by now.

So is it that Clevelanders are still bitter about Sam Wyche's outstanding "you don't live in Cleveland" line, or does Cleveland just hate everything about Cincinnati as a whole?

I can only say I truly and sincerely loathe that cinnamon laden slop you philistines foist upon mounds of overcooked spaghetti. And I can assure you that Cincinnatians are very much alone in their adoration of that abomination.

Surprisingly enough, Cincinnati chili belies plenty of epicurean delights in that city. It has a great brewing scene, Jungle Jim's kicks ass (even if the Miami grad owner is one) and I've had plenty of great meals at independent restaurants there.

The chili can descend back to the depths of hell from whence it came.

As someone who didn't grow up there, I never understood it either. But then I had a coney for the first time and I was a goner. The 3-way is definitely not my go-to, but the chili itself grew on me.

And I can second the many independent restaurants that made Cincy a great place to live for me for so long. Burgers at City View, Zips or Quatmann (stick that Terry's Turf Club in the trash where it belongs with their owner), Django Taco and Eli's BBQ were some of my staples.

As I said - jokingly - There are those that like it, and there are those that are wrong. You can be wrong on this occasion. ;)

Being serious, I've never understood the disdain for it. It's essentially meat sauce on spaghetti with cheese, and the option to add onions, beans, and hot sauce. I've never understood what's so dreadful about that? While it's not top shelf cuisine, people act like it's the worst food ever. It's not - beets, brussel sprouts, and cooked spinach are. Oh, and I forgot Spam.

Zips is a classic place that has been around since my parents were right out of college - maybe longer. Definitely a place I wish I could stop into more often. I've never made it to City View either and I think you've mentioned that one before. Time to add to the list!
