GO BOBCATS
Why would he if he doesn't know where his next job will be?
House sold, so why stay? I’m sure there are places closer to family to hang and seek work.
I must be underestimating how much fun it is to move.

Perhaps the Phillips are waiting until the school year ends for the kids.

Gash, I love well thought out responses. That shows incredible insight and understanding.

When looking to see if I could find any news on the status of the UND basketball search, I came upon this story from when Saul was originally hired at cross-state rival NDSU. I found it interesting reading, perhaps you will too. Also, I found the picture of a more youthful Phillips intriguing. YMMV.

I’m not sure how I’ve lived 56 years without this knowledge. Thank you very much for posting!

Saul is being mentioned by Hoopdirt as a possible replacement at Northern State (SD), a D-2 school whose coach got the North Dakota job that Saul tried to get. How ironic and how confusing to have Northern State in South Dakota.

D-2 ball is big in that region. It was even bigger when South Dakota and North Dakota were Div 2. Average crowds around 5,000.

All I know is I saw a lot of advertising for Black Hills State athletics in the Rapid City/Mt. Rushmore area when visiting a few years ago. Far more than anything I have seen for Ohio athletics.

YES.

To the best of my knowledge.
No job as of today. Kids out of school. House was sold, Pods went out today to storage. Going on vacation with the family for a few weeks. I look for them to end up in Wisconsin for a few months.

Best thing for Saul might be to take a year off....travel around the country and watch practices and then try again next year. I really thought he'd consider the assistant route for a year too. Obviously, his last five years as head coach didn't jump off a resume when reviewed by athletic directors. Saul will land on his feet, but he might have to swallow some pride and take the second seat on the bench for a little bit and not the first.

This hire was clearly Schaus' worst during his tenure.

Have to disagree big time on that one. Here was his worst hire:

She was named head coach of the Ohio Bobcats women's basketball team on May 9, 2008. Upon her hiring, she stated: "It is my dream job to coach in the state of Ohio. If you look at my previous coaching experiences, you'll see that I've always positioned myself around this state because it's a great place for women's basketball. Ohio is a great school. I like that it urges student-athletes to excel in the classroom and on the court. It's just a great place and I'm looking forward to becoming part of the Ohio basketball family and the Athens community!" Jim Schaus, Athletic Director of Ohio University, described her hiring as "a winning half-court shot at the buzzer."

On March 10, 2013 Randall was released from the Ohio coaching staff where she held a 5-year record of 50-112. During her 5th year as head coach of the bobcats Semeka Held a record of 6-23 going 1-14 in the Mid American Conference(MAC). Director Schaus stated "I want the program to be aimed in a better direction, time for a fresh start". He has begun a Nationwide immediate search. Along with four others, Randall was released from the women's basketball program at Ohio University.

I remember vividly the first time I met Semeka. She had that "deer caught in the headlights" look. It was the polar opposite of her predecessor's look who exuded confidence - and it showed in how fast she elevated the women's program.

Alan,
I stand corrected were 2 bad hires. This fact only solidifies his hiring decisions.

I think it’s been stated that Schaus made 14 hires during his tenure here. Randall was the worst, Saul probably not the next worse, but I don’t keep track of some of the others, so I’m not sure about them. Fans closer to other sports can chime in.

I totally forgot about Sylvia Crawley. I feel bad about that; her teams were fun to watch. Jennifer Bushby had the only true buzzer beater I ever saw Ohio make.

Crawley was good. Remember when she joined the dance team for the George Mason bracket buster game?

Randall was a complete DISASTER. Her student/athletes told me many Horror stories about her and some still carry the psychological after effects of her treatment of them.

Looks like Crawley is on staff at her alma mater - North Carolina.

Northern is a sleeping giant in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Some of the best athletics that you will come across in the Dakotas, Nebraska and Minnesota.

Interestingly, Northern State has lead D-II men’s basketball attendance for 11 straight years. Some 3700 last year in a 8057 seat arena.
