You said that Rush > Springsteen & E Streeters.

No  Rush is a nice band, in there with Cheap Trick & such.  Not near the truly splendid Tom Petty.

The one song by Springsteen--listen to it.  It's one of the great works of art.

I an a Rush fan.... not quite on the level that i an with Peter Gabriel era Genesis or Radiohead but rush captivates me musically andi appreciate what they accomplish- 

I do agree with Monroe that Springsteen has hada much greater effect on american rock, audiences or rock and roll in general than rush itregardless of your individual taste in music. Especially when compared to Rush the boss has touched hundreds of times more folk with some sort of resonating message


I am sure music critics and the staff at Rolling Stone would share Monroe's sentiment if quizzed.

That is classic , thanks for sharing. Have seen many of the acts on the poster live. Billy Preston on Clark Street in Chicago following George Duke/Billy Cobham but my favorite up there is BS&T

Have to say I agree with the original post.

I send the kids to all sorts of camps during the summer -- soccer camps, science camps, church camps, baseball camps, blah, blah, blah. But during the drives to these places I make sure the kids listen to great music. And perhaps no lesson is more important than telling them of the time the late, great Clarence Clemons lifted me off my feet -- literally -- during the solo in Jungleland in 1984. Drills are good. Practice is good. But nothing in life will take you further than passion.

And in the quick of the night they reach for their moment
And try to make an honest stand but they wind up wounded, not even dead

Well - Apparently in LA (isn't Monroe out there?) they do not think that highly of Rush:

For me it's Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Chet Baker, Joe Williams, Mel Torme, Blossom Dearie, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Hartman, Lena Horne, Astrud Gilberto, Deano Martino and many others that interpret the Great American Songbook.

Fine artists, Giacomo. 

I know that the atmosphere was seductive, but a few weeks ago we were driving the California coast highway up to Monterey/Carmel with the cd player playing "Jungleland."  If you haven't heard it or haven't heard it lately, listen to it.  It's one of the alltime great pieces of music.

Jim Rissmiller passed away last week on Wednesday, April 3rd from a stroke. He was 76, and living in Cleveland, Ohio at the time of his death. Below, is a link regarding the life and death of Jim. I knew Jim, and he was a huge concert promoter back in the day. He had an amazing life and career. Hope this helps.

Besides being an OU grad, this is the line that got my attention:

Following his departure from the business a few years later, Rissmiller moved on to teaching music and concert-business classes at UCLA. Over the years, he also assisted the university athletic department’s marketing, promotion and fundraising efforts.

I knew Rissy on campus and he was a real character. He lived at the President Alden's house, and drove for the family. When Bob Hope came to Athens (1963 or 64) there was a parade and Rissy drove the convertible with Hope in the back. A group of us ran up to the car with paper and pen seeking an autograph. At the last minute, we diverted to Rissy, totally ignoring Hope, who stopped and signed a few for us. Hope thought it was great fun and Rissy claimed that he developed a relationship with Hope and show business from there.
