It was quite nice.  My wife and I got there about 6:20, and it looked like the 110 had been there and were just leaving.  They must have had a few rounds of SUAC.  We had a chance to talk to JC for a few minutes, and he seems like a very genuine person who is not at all aloof.  More like JG than TOS in that regard.  I told him with a big smile on my face that he had not initially been my top choice, but once I heard Schaus' analysis of him and watched the presser and his interviews on regional TV that I had come around and thought he was the perfect man for the job.  He then joked, in a very friendly manner, that he hadn't been his wife's first choice either.  It was all very friendly banter.  In short, he's one of those guys who you can feel comfortable with very quickly.  No pretensions.  At the same time, you could tell he was very serious about his job and was going to work very hard to make us the best team possible.  All and all, I found him in person an even more compelling choice than what I had concluded based on Schaus' assessment.

Very cool. He seems to be winning over more OHIO fans by the day.

Just wonder what it will be like once the season starts.

once you meet him,you will like him very down to earth plus you get the feeling he is a hard worker

"You want to be a good place where they appreciate you and give you what you need to win," said Christian. "After you have had some success in a place, you need to be careful when it comes to just going somewhere else."

Maybe, just maybe, we've found a guy who won't run out of town on the first "big time" offer he receives after he takes us to the Final Four next year.

Hasn't it crossed your mind that he was getting choked up about Athens because he really does love it and that made leaving for his dream job more difficult?

You took him getting choked up as he wasn't leaving.  I took it as the exact opposite.

I cried when I left Athens because it meant I had to live in a place where it wasn't sociably acceptable to be drunk at noon on a Tuesday.

It takes a lot of gall to suggest a guy was lying, especially in that situation.
+1 here.  I got choked up when we won those games too, because Athens was, is, and will always be a special place for me.  However my career path has removed me from the area, so does that mean it isn't special to me?

Agreed. I've said it several times on here but when Groce was here he gave us his all.  I have zero problem with the way things played out.

Wow those are some fascinating quotes in hindsight.  Between that impression he gave and his solid but not exactly earth shattering results he got in just 2 years with mostly another regime's recruits...and I'm pretty stunned we are in this position.

Not sure why you hate that.... Brian is usually a pretty good analyst and sees this pretty unemotionally.  I always read his stuff and see truths in what is being said.  Right up there with slimmy, flomo and about 10 others I really wait to see their takes on things...
