Just got a call from the Ticket office telling me they are going back to reserved seating. They are working thru their list of the reserved seats from the 2017-18 season and offering them back to those folks first before releasing to public.

He also mentioned they are expanding the season ticket experience with ticket exchanges and credits and such, things you see in a lot of the professional ticket offices. He said details will be released in a few weeks. All sounded like good changes.

Pricing-wise...Do not quote me on this but I believe he said the 1st 3 rows near the middle are $100 each, 4th row+ are $90 (but that goes down to $50 each if you buy 4). Sections around the ends (the previous family value packs) are $60 for 1st 3 rows and $50 for 4th row+. Or something like that...I am nearly certain I did not translate that all accurately.

It seemed like such a small battle to pick with loyal fans and very little financial upside even if the changes worked out.

Here's the thing about this change last year, in my opinion, that went wrong:

1) They alienated a lot of people who, while they don't spend mega bucks as ticket holders, they do spend more than most one visit a year fans, or opposing fans. As a person who falls into this ticket grouping, I felt like they treated us like we were relatively unimportant and insignificant.

2) They missed a significant opportunity to create another "Tier" of season ticket seating that allowed them to generate more revenue, while giving those who had reserved seats the option to retain a reserved seat. If I were them, I would have made the first 3-4 rows of the upper level reserved seating, and every row thereafter GA. And, price it accordingly. Instead of charging $50 for a GA season ticket, charge $75-90, and create a tier of seating that fits between the least expensive lower bowl seats, and the cheapest GA seats.

I'm hoping this was a one to two year blip on the radar with the off the court stuff in the same way it was on the court.

I was quoted $50 for each of my 4 old seats in row M.

It's still less than I said I'd pay if they had simply raised the price.

I was able to get my 4-seat family pack in row E at the price of $40/seat and the $5 service fee...$165 total. No complaints about that here.

Interesting that it sounds like what I note above is essentially what is going to happen starting next season. They'll honor the price we paid prior to the switch to GA for this year only, and then make the first 3 rows reserved at a higher price moving forward. So this year's $50 seat may be a $80 seat next year in the upper bowl. Personally, I'm OK with that price range.

Yes OU_C, they did warn that the prices will be going up next year. I really can't complain...it is silly how cheap I've gotten my front row sec 231 seats for over a decade now. When the kids are gone (and hopefully at OU), the wife and I will finally upgrade to some high roller seats but for now these work out perfect for my family.

I've said since the Sweet 16 season that they've been under charging for the bottom 3-5 rows of the upper level, and that I would gladly pay 50-100% more & still feel like I'm getting good value for my money.

EDIT - Also, I wanted to upgrade 3-4 years ago and move down. My wife, who is about 5'4, likes having those first couple rows because it makes it easy for her to see without a tall person blocking her view. For that reason, we haven't moved in the past.

That is a good point, my wife is 5'2" and of course my kids shorter than that (for now).

I've long advocated for the first rows in concert venues to be for short people willing to pay more to be able to see. I'm not sure it's legal, but let me live my dream.

I did have a terrific, gargantuan (like 6-foot-7) gentleman at a recent Jason Isbell concert look behind him, realize me and my wife were going to be staring at the back of his head for three hours and offer to switch rows. That guy was awesome.
