Duling played for All Ohio Red on the AAU Circuit and graduated from Newark (same as Dartis). He didn't do much at Kent State, but who knows. Maybe it was a coaching thing.
Given all of the departures, and the chip he'd carry on his shoulder, it sure seems like a stone worth turning over at the moment.

So is Brandon Wade, who was recruited by virtually every MAC school.

Just saw in a tweet from Verbal Commits that their transfer list is over 500, with 100 Grad transfers included.

Do we want him? If Jeff does, we may get him, but 4 point guys who have to sit out a year and who shoot 42% wouldn’t seem to be a big target right now in our situation.
Okay, he played 12 minutes per game and he’s a freshman, so who knows how he’ll turn out. It just seems we need guys who can play now.

Former Mr Basketball in Kentucky, Cam Justice, looking to grad transfer.

Was committed to Tennessee, dropped that when Cuonzo Martin left, played at Vandy, played at IUPUI, now... ???

I would take Brandon Wade. The Dukes have so many guards, they won’t miss a beat.

I'd be surprised if there was any interest between Ohio and Duling, going either way.

A more likely former Newark player with a possibility to transfer to Ohio is JT Shumate, who just finished his freshman year at Walsh. The 6-7 Shumate had shooting numbers of 52%/43%/73% and averaged 18.7 pts and 6.2 reb. Have heard from multiple sources up here in Newark that he is interested and that Boals tried recruiting him to Stony Brook.

I always told my son to watch/listen to Shumate at the biddy league clinics, where the Newark varsity players were in charge of stations. Shumate ran the station where the kids worked on shooting form as he had the best form of any of his teammates with a smooth and quick release.

Look for yourself and tell me if you think so...

My guess is, NO, not related. But easily worth a schollie for one year.

Well played, Sir!

I was going to suggested in my normally sarcastic way that Owens was going to transfer to OHIO to complete his round-robin signings and was granted an extra eighth year by the NCAA after his father threatened to sue the NCAA for allowing his son to ever set foot on the scandal laden Tennessee campus. I was afraid somebody might believe it!

Add the Hauser brothers from Marquette to the list. I think they are going to sit out a year. Surprising in that Marquette looked to be extremely strong for next year.

Why does this number seem ridiculously high to me? I honestly have no idea if its a high number or not, any insight?

I wish I had time to do a search, but my guess is it's grown each of the last several years. One reason is that the NCAA is granting more and more waivers so undergrads don't have to sit out a year. Second, the growth in grad transfers, which the NCAA is reportedly trying to tamp down. Another, coaches are far more receptive to transfers than in the past. Did u see Nevada's roster last year? All but 3 out of about 15 players were transfers, and 2 of those 3 were seldom used walk-ons. Wolves were 14th in country before the tourney.

Akwasi Yeboah 20th on that list. I keep hoping/wondering if he could come to Athens, but he seems like he's probably destined for a bigger spotlight school.

It seems quite high to me. Unless I have the numbers wrong, 500ish out of 4500ish D1 players are transferring, or 11% of players transferring this year. By comparison, roughly 50 D1 head coaching jobs have changed hands this spring, or about 14% of them. That definitely has an effect on the number of transfers.

In the past when I looked at this over several seasons, the two percentages were pretty close to each other, but I don't have the numbers from coaching changes or transfers over the last 5 or so years handy to compare.

It's actually low compared to last year, according to Verbal Commits' list. There were over 800 transfers in 2018.

An ESPN article this morning says over 700 as if this morning at 5am, so the number is not far off and rising daily.

I feel like players should have a little more freedom than they do but this is just out of hand in my opinion. Call me old school but where is the loyalty? Coaches can come and go as they please, maybe they need to force them to sit out a year if they choose to break a contract? The NCAA is turning into AAU at this point.
