I think this will take off and the NCAA will have to make some changes.

Just call it the NBA minor leagues. Pay the men - but let them continue to enroll in schools. That's essentially all this is (save for some jibberish about racism thrown in for good measure because #reasons).

I'm not naive enough to think my opinion on the matter reflects that of our society, but not a chance in Hades I'd ever watch this. Just like I don't watch the D-League, nor do I watch overseas hoops. I congratulate them on trying to break up a monopoly by providing competition and alternative choices and letting the market decide what it actually wants, but I just don't see this working at all. Unless, like I said, it's just pitched as a minor leagues.

I watch college sports for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back. I mean come on, I have to speak for most of us on this message board in saying we all come here and cheer for OU because of OU. Not because of *insert highly touted recruit here*. If that was all we cared about, we certainly wouldn't be diehard mid-major fans.

But maybe I'm bass ackwards. Maybe people just want to follow their local And-1 (does this even still exist?) Instagram Star with his Nike/Walmart/Taco Bell labelled endorsements dunking on people on a blacktop near you while collecting his $150k check.

Exactly. And I have a hard time believing that the education part of this is going to be a draw to very many of the players. And without the NBA subsidizing this I don't see any way it survives if it even ever gets off the drawing board. Also tired of hearing how these kids are "victims". Love the angle that the colleges are not teaching these kids about real life situations like finances. Ummm, Ohio didn't teach me that either. My family and life experiences did. I hope it does take off though and I hope we see an end to the one and dones in college. As it stands there sure are a lot of kids standing in line to become one of these victims.

Definitely an uphill battle for a league this to become truly relevant.

But long-term, my guess is that NCAA basketball and football end up with some sort of hybrid model like this one. Players are enrolled, part of their compensation's enrollment at the university, which can be deferred until post-professional career, and a salary that covers the basics. Stars will be able to make more on their likeness and mid-majors and smaller schools who don't generate the revenue to support this will remain fully amateur.

No shortage of legal hurdles to get over, but with time the case for amateurism under the current set up is going to get flimsier and flimsier, and eventually the big revenue schools are going to need to come to the table on player comp.

Shame, I agree with you. Although at present the NCAA and Power 5 have no shame.
