Now that the NCAA has given up the fight on endorsements,how long before they get rid of the one year waiting period for transfers completely ?

Unfortunately, that may happen, and is part of what many actually called for on this board. I find it funny though that several see these endorsement deals as being from modeling agencies and restaurants. Those some will be in that variety, the bulk will be from shoe companies, locking folks up and controlling where they go.

The sad thing is we (non-power conference schools) feel as if we have to fight for every scrap, let alone thrown a bone once in a while, yet the big boys think we have it too good. They would rather we be demoted to some sort of 2nd Division League a la European soccer. If you happen to travel around the country and listen to sports talk radio as I have done for work on occasion, you hear this from both big school basketball and football fans. As for the immediate transfer rule, diamond in the rough players like a Gary Trent would be able to be one and done with us. The ramification for the MAC or any non-power conference school would be something we might not want to imagine.

i think until we actually see what the NCAA comes up with. This may actually change college basketball and football for the better. For starters, it is my primary understanding that. This money is probably going to have to be as a deferred payment. Because if not it is going to be almost impossible for these kids to remain amateurs. Also if the NCAA attaches getting the money and the ability to make it as you have to continue progress toward your degree. Then 1 and done players would not really even be eligible.

also i just don't think there will nearly be the money out there people thinks that there is. The truth is we have no idea. I think what ultimately comes out will be interesting.

A no sit transfer rule could benefit mid majors too. Unhappy P5 players can stay d1 without sitting out.

I posted the story about Micheal Phelps.

The only thing that matters is the NCAA figuring out a way to allow,what they previously defined as "professional" athletes to participate in amateur sports.

I listened yesterday to a long session that Sirius 84/Tom Lubenville?? Had on recruiting with our own Dr Ridpath. He basically said that schools like Ohio U will probably end up in a lower division for football , maybe other major sports as well. He said the divide is already there and the new changes will make it worse. He says his group has come up with a look at the situation called the Drake Report, I think. Haven’t had time to follow up on that yet.

Others on the show said they didn’t think the money would be as much for everybody as some now think and they have no idea what its going to end up really looking like , details wise. Some said that this is already going on under the table and it might be better to bring it into open where it can be more transparent. ( my problem with that argument is what’s happening with legalizing various drugs, the black market still thrives)

You totally miss my point. The "Amateur" status matters for several sports, sports like tennis, golf, swimming and etc., but not as much for baseball, basketball, football. I understand your point.

What I was saying was that this is another issue the NCAA has to figure out.

As I read their rules,a "professional" in a sport cannot participate in that sport in college.

I guess they could do something similar to how they deal with drafted baseball players who get a signing bonus but can still play in college.

Maybe some type of deferred payment.

The other question is the mechanism to make sure the NCAA rules on payments for
endorsements are followed.

Back when a handful of e-book companies got busted for price fixing, everyone who bought from them received a part of the class action settlement. My wife, who had purchased quite a number of e-books, heard the news and got a bit excited...then received a check for like 5 bucks.

I think that's the way I see it shaking out as well. I'll be honest, I'm okay with that. We've been losing the competitive balance war for a while now. Maybe time to stop fighting it and relegate ourselves to college sports and not professional sports. I'll still watch.

We already are in a lower division for football, just not yet in name. We're not eligible for the national championship. So this may just end up codifying the inevitable.
