According to this article, Saul may end up at Nebraska as an assistant coach.
Phillips, might he link up with Tim Miles again down the road? The two are close friends and could make for the most entertaining hire at a program -- either this year or next.

I too hope he finds work and in if it were all financially possible, I think it would be great if he could sit the year out and travel the country watching other teams in their practice and game time situation trying to figure out what went wrong. Coach Solich did the same thing and he said it greatly helped him as a coach.

Earlier in the year, I posted that something is horribly amiss with team chemistry and leadership to have gotten in so many bad stretches within games. The idea that the team was going to rally around the coach and save his job late in the year shows how poorly they played earlier in the year. That being said, the debacle in Dekalb was a metaphor for the whole season. Some of the transferring players are going to get a wake up call when they go to successful programs and see what happens when you don't measure up. We all make mistakes, even serious lapses in judgement within our lives. The key is to learn and get better.

We have all met people who still make excuses and blames others well into the golden years of their lives. Let's hope the players and the coaching staff and even some of those who enabled their ineptness, learn form their mistakes. I know it sounds like a cliche, but I learned a heckuva lot more about myself through coaching, and those around me, when we lost than when we won. Sometimes what you see in the mirror isn't something you like.

I think Saul's ability to do this is more then financial.

Unlike Coach Solich,Saul has young kids at home.
I don't know if he'd want to be away for any extended period of time.

Was wondering,does anyone know if Saul and family are still in Athens ?

There was an article recently about how former head coaches make better assistant coaches than those who've only been assistants. They see the big picture better. I don't see him being jobless too long.

In order to travel the county and learn from other coaches/teams, he would have to have an open mind and be willing to change. We watched 5 years and he never changed his recruiting philosophies to adopt to the MAC, never played a zone defense even when we had lesser athletes on the floor!!!, never changed his in game coaching strategies, and rarely pressed to give the opposing team a different look. I could go on but he wasn't open to changing in 5 years, and he still believes he didn't do anything wrong after he was "not renewed". Maybe this was a serious wake up call for him, but I don't see it happening.

I'm not "trolling" you - I'm merely pointing out that the HOF induction will be the result of winning games. The sabbatical might be something he said helped him be a better coach once he came to Athens. I think a month or two sabbatical every 10 years would be good for all of us to refresh our work, and wish America would allow for more time off to refresh one's mind...but that's another topic for another day.

If I wanted to "troll you", I'd have had fun with Saul going to work for an out of work coach. :-)

I think he’ll do well. He recruited to Fargo. Maybe he’s better when the location isn’t prime. I wish him nothing but success if he gets the job.

I'm not sure that pic wasn't ten years ago. I don't think he ever had that much hair at Ohio. ;)

Go Saul....Idaho State is definitely the place and conference where the talent of player he recruits makes sense. I think he'd do well there....hope he gets it.

It's a D1 job and program. I'm sure there are plenty of kids in the Pacific Northwest that would love to play there.
