I certainly fit in that category. And I met some other alums who worked in Nashville and in Atlanta. But there were also a fair number of people that traveled from Athens or somewhere in southeast Ohio. One couple we met were returning to the Athens area immediately after the USF game, and expecting to get back home around 5 am. For once, we were closer to home than most.

'Twas a hop-skip-and-a-jump for me!

Also read on Twitter that there may be a meet and greet Friday @ 6 at Walter hall.

6-7 on Friday in Walter--you are correct.

We should put up a banner or something in the Convo. Maybe put some sequins on it to class it up.

Maybe they  could do a pre-game video.

A board member each getting a second on screen:

"ONE UPSMANSHIP!"

"BIG MANZ!"

"PRETZELS!"

"BORTZ!"

Personally, I think the one player to watch here is Ethan Jacobs.  I can recall when he was first recruited that someone posted a comment on this board assuring everyone that Jacobs was not a project.  Unfortunately, that's exactly what he turned out to be, and after 2 years, still a project with no end in sight.  Does the new staff see a player that has even the potential to get off the bench in the next 2 years?  Or a player that can do little other than fill out the second 5 during practice?  Again, JC and co. have absolutely nothing invested in this kid.  What they do have is only a single scholarship available for next year.

I'm not sure how instrumental Christian was, but John Edwards (the kid from Hudson, not the <censored, I hate Siberia> politician) was in a similar boat.  He was a JR for JC's first year, and ended up with a solid senior season.  He had more PT than Ethan did his first two years, which might make this less comparable.

I'm not advocating this is coming down the pike...but if you're looking for something encouraging for EJ then I think this qualifies.

Like many, my reaction to the Christian hire went from shock ("WHO?!?") to unease to acceptance/excitement. Well, I just finished watching the press conference and now I'm excited, for next year and the future! He seems good, and I especially especially especially like that he's the spouse of an OHIO grad. I also literally laughed out loud at the "winning team/losing team" anecdote.

EDIT: AND I just remembered that there is (most of) an OHIO football season in there before the next basketball season starts!!!

Still skeptical, but if he follows through on his statement to move the program along the same path as Groce that should bode well for next season.  He did make a qualifying remark that players would have to buy into their roles (or something like that), so the clouds haven't parted yet.

He thinks that spending lots of money on sports at a place of higher education is stupid. I'm glad he cares enough about Ohio University to get involved a voice his opinion.

I think a classics/word religion department is stupid.

The difference between myself and Dr. Hays? I understand that his department has a place and that it ENHANCES the University, and I'm not going to lead a crusade to remove that department from campus.

The main difference between you and Steve Hays is: he is a respected scholar and you are a guy on a message board.

And he doesn't agree with you definition of enhancement. So he can't speak his mind?

I like Jim Schaus too; he and President McDavis are two fantastic credits to Ohio University!

On the basketball-end of things, does anyone know how the lockerroom renovations are going? Is funding securely in place and have they started the physical renovations yet? Just wondering.

Did anyone else notice the implication in one of JC's comments yesterday (can't remember if it was the presser or a media interview) in which he said we need to set a goal of winning the MAC regular season title and then implied with the current team that that would probably set us up for a NCAA bid regardless of MAC tourney finish.  That last part kind of slid off his tongue, almost as a throw away line, but he clearly implied it.  Sounded to me that he's got a slightly different angle on these matters than JG did.

I think it was in the interview w/ Channel 10. I believe is was shortly following a question about scheduling, I took it as meaning that he was going to try to get his experienced players a schedule that they could get an at large bid. I think John Groce would have scheduled for an at large this upcoming year as well...don't think it is much different. You have veteran kids with high ceiling...you schedule accordingly.

I was thinking more along the lines that if you put yourself in position to win the MAC regular season tournament, you're going to be in good position to do well in the postseason, as well.

It should more feasable to schedule some bigger names in December with the switch to semesters.

it will be very disappointing if we are not part of a decent preseason tourney, like coaches v. cancer or preseason NIT...

This was my thought too. The semesters switch should allow for higher attendance, and therefore bigger games at home. Can't wait!

If OHIO and Akron play to their potential next year, and one of them wins the tourney, the MAC should be able to get two into the NCAA's.

All you need is one to play to their potential and then lose the MAC Tourney.

That is true. And if both play to their potential with neither winning the tourney, the MAC conceivably could get 3 in, although I doubt that's ever happened.
