Comparing the 2018-2019 roster to this year I noticed the following physical changes in our returnees: Springs: +20 lbs; Preston: +12 lbs (and one inch); Vander Plas: +9 lbs; Murrell: +15 lbs; McMurray: +5 lbs; Dartis: same; Tenewicz: same.

Assuming the guys have maintained, if not improved, their conditioning as well, I think this bodes well for the season. IMHO I thought we were not quite as physical as we needed to be at times last season.

The NBA announced this year that they are going with exact heights and weights and not just what the players tell them to put down. I'm curious if the NCAA would ever have something similar. I'm skeptical of all this information because I always wonder who is providing the information.

I'm starved for some hoops news, especially good. This qualifies.

I also want more than ever to hear news on this team. It seemed like every year of the Saul era we had some guy like Culver or Butler or Cowart who were unknowns with high expectations but rarely panned out. This team has sooooo many new guys and we really don't know who can play at the collegiate level and who can't. I watched year after year of Kron and Kent adding new guys who made immediate impacts and we had a few scattered. Wouldn't it be awesome if guys like Roderick, McDay, Ogbanda and Price were instant impact and Preston, BVP and Murrell improved? Fire in a bottle baby!

There are more unknowns on this roster than I can ever remember going into the season. The only player I feel we know what we're getting is Preston. Will Dartis return to form? Will BVP raise his game to more frequently scoring 20+ as he did a few times last year? Murrell gave us more as the season wore on - will he take the next step? What will Ogbunda provide?

In the Saul years, we DID in fact have some players make significant impacts in year one:

Ryan Taylor (led all scorers in his first real game)
Jaaron Simmons
Jordan Dartis
Jason Carter
Teyvion Kirk
Ben Vander Plas
Jason Preston (in my opinion, things got much better once he became a regular)

While I'm well aware of all the guys like Culver, Butler, Dozier, etc., who left us wanting for more, or that left too early to see them develop, to say there weren't impact players recruited under Saul isn't the case. The problem, besides the number of transfers leaving talent holes in the final two years, is that there simply weren't enough of impact players signed in the last couple years.

Past that, I'm with you - I'm very much looking forward to what we see from the new group. While I expect growing pains early on, I really think, like you, that the trio of Price, Roderick, and McDay have the potential to be special over the long haul here. Without a doubt, that's the best trio of freshman guards I've seen in several years.

To me, watching those questions get answered on the court is half the fun. ;)
