Not good according to latest Arkley article. Roderick, Price, Brown and Murrell are all out. Roderick and Murrell indefinitely. Sounds like five guys have barely even played in the preseason.

Not good.....

A full third of the Bobcats’ scholarship roster — junior wing Connor Murrell, and freshmen Ben Roderick, Marvin Price and Miles Brown — won’t be available in the exhibition. Price and Brown have missed, essentially, the entire preseason practice window after “minor” knee procedures. Murrell (foot) and Roderick (knee) are on the shelf indefinitely with more recent injury issues.

It’s left OU without a clear backup point guard, and a void in the projected early season lineup. Roderick, along with freshman guard Lunden McDay, were going to be counted on for big minutes from the start.

If these are prolonged, I have to imagine we will see stretches where there are three of McMurray, BVP, Springs, Foster, and Ogbonda on the floor together.

Incredibly depressing news.. we knew about Brown and Price from previous reports- but the Murrell and Roderick news are daggers.

Hope they are maybe being extra precautionary here with rest and recovery. If these guys miss significant time then the whole 7 wins this year may actually be accurate...

Ouch. Let's hope the boys heal quickly. I was looking forward to seeing what Murrell would look like this year. There were times last year where he was instant offense.

Seems odd to me that we are just getting wind of all of these injuries now....just 4 days before the opener. You read this article and you wonder how Boals can even put a team out on the court at St. Bonaventure.

FearLeon lists four injured players. Yet the comment states that there are five injured players. Who is the fifth player?

Good question...we did know that BVP missed some time in pre-season. Maybe that's the 5th? Not sure...but this article could not have been more depressing on the injury front.

So we would trot out a lineup of Dartis, Ogbanda, McDay, Preston and what, McMurray with a bench of Springs, Michael Brown and Foster? Yeah, that's seven wins!

And, here, I had thought that the injury-to-key-players bug had left town with Saul. Guess not. This is depressing!

No kidding. What's in the water there in The Convo? The injury bug has been problematic for several years now. Woofff....

There was a video on Twitter about Jordan Dartis showing how excited he was to get back in the lineup. Coach Boals mentioned the hip injuries and he also turned an ankle this fall. He may even be the mystery 5th? Who knows.

The fifth is not a mystery: BVP, Roderick, Price, Brown and Murrell. Basically 5 of our expected rotational players. So weird...saw Roderick, Murrell and Price as well as BVP in drills all through the summer and Fall in videos they posted. Hoping these are just "we don't need them for Capital and we are sandbagging for Bonnies" talk.

^^^^ With so many new faces, and trying to integrate everyone into new systems and new coaching, what reason would they have to "sandbag for the Bonnies"

How does this even happen before any games?!?! Unless guys are going crazy with contact in practice or we’re the flukiest injury team ever.

Nobody said that this season would be easy. Young High School stars are being asked to step up and play at the next level a bit earlier than desirable and even expected. Coach Boals was an intense and hard working player in his prime, who played through injuries and always seemed to give it his all. I am expecting that the standard being set for this program now is toughness, intensity, and effort, and so these kids are bound to get banged up a bit in the process. I suspect that this is going to pay big dividends by the time we reach league play, even if the school has to resort to open try outs by then to fill out their bench.

Shifting the discussion over from the Capital game site, is there a legal or privacy issue preventing the program from being more forthcoming about injuries? In pro sports the coaching staff updates injury status regularly. We don't know much about any of the injuries in our players, and maybe we are not supposed to know, but it is a bit frustrating.

Yeah, it’s called HIPA, in pro sports you have a collective bargaining agreement that forces disclosure in lines with league policy. Primarily to appease Vegas. In NCAA, student athletes have the right to privacy, in fact, to enter the draft, athletes must sign waiver opening their medical history.

This is true, and it goes ever further. Combine HIPAA with FERPA and you get some interesting results. At the medical school we had the strange situation that nearly every year we had one or two graduating students who refused to sign waivers and we could not even list them publicly as being in the graduating class. We used to jokingly call it the Medical Student Witness Protection Program. Believe it or not, HIPPA and FERPA do interconnect. I once knew the details, but they were so convoluted that only a lawyer could like them and want to remember those intersections of one alphabet soup law with the other. . (No offense to any lawyers on the board.)

It is more FERPA than HIPAA in this case. Injuries taken care of by the school fall under FERPA since it is an educational institution and not a health care institution.

The thought of playing St. Bonaventure, Villanova and the Myrtle Beach tourney without a full roster is beyond frustrating. With Roderick, Price and Murrell you are talking two starters...possibly three out of the lineup. Get healthy soon and hope everyone is at full strength come MAC season. Still a mystery on how long these guys are going to miss until we hear it from Boals himself. Onward and forward.
