OK, have any locals been able to learn anything about our team as they prepare for the season?

I'll add what I saw Homecoming Saturday morning. I popped into The Convo because the door was open, and there was a scrimmage going on with referees. What I thought I saw, that appeared to be the "first team" was as follows:

Preston 1, Dartis 2, Roderick 3, BVP 4, Ogbonda 5.

I was in there for max of ten minutes. My biggest observation besides that was that 35 and 0 seemed to work together rather well before they were subbed out. 35 was looking healthy as can be. It was good to see him back on the court with a big smile.

I am really hoping someone says Springs looks like a real player.

Nobody has said “Why is BVP in a boot?” yet.

Marvin price warmed up but didn’t play. Miles Brown didn’t do anything. Ben Vander Plas was on the bike the whole time but only using his arms. Jordy looked good and Ben Roderick made a lot of threes. They pushed it up and down the court and it was very intense.

Saw Springs at the football game.....6’10” for sure.

Also saw Vander Plas and Foster.....if Foster is 6’10” then BVP must be 6’9”.

Preston, Darts, Roderick, Murrell, Ogbonda started as 1 unit - appear to be the starting five. Tenerowisc, McDay, Foster, McMurray, and a walk-on PG started against them. Left to tailgate after first session - so did not see others.. Would not read too much into who was on second unit. Team challenge will be size and strength inside. Big men were called for a couple of fouls trying to hold off rebounders. Boals wanted Preston to crash D boards more - so look for that. Team appears to have the speed to crash 4 and still get out on breaks.

Per above, scrimmage was intense. Strong, aggressive man-to-man D on both ends. Team may struggle this year as it finds its way but no one will accuse them of lack of effort.

FYI - Dartis was coaching up teammates in warmups and during scrimmage - undisputed leader of the team. He has a career in coaching if that's the path he chooses.

Dartis will need to learn to smile a lot less to be a successful coach.

Saw the scrimmage on Saturday as well. Team is really listening to Boals. Way more aggressive D. Worked on fast break as well as set plays. Liked what I saw from Preston, Dartis, Roderick, Ogbonda, and McDay.

He did not get a lot of playing time. My guess is Ogbonda and Foster will be the main bigs.

Yes. Still looks like a project to me. Maybe will improve as the season rolls on.

Mark it down: Dartis will lead the MAC in one category, if not the entire nation. And it has nothing to do with his shooting - 3pt fg %; 3pt fg made; etc. . .

The standard he will set will be the most "high-fives" initiated by one player.

I can't imagine that Vander Plas won't be in the starting unit.

Right, but he's in a boot. Saw him around over the weekend. No crutches or anything, just in a boot.

I think we also all think Price will be in the rotation when healthy. Per Nashville above, McDay was impressive in the scrimmage. So that makes 8 - presume Foster, McMurray, Springs battle for the next big man spot the other 2 get used as fouls require.

As we approach the first game/exhibition, we don’t have much information about injuries (Vander Plas, Miles Brown), who looks good, surprises etc.
