Can somebody explain to me why the athletic department has not released the news of Price transferring in a press release? A high profile freshman recruit leaves 12 games into his career? Seems to be a big deal...no? Why the secrecy? Why is it so difficult to get information concerning this program when it comes to anything?
An excellent question. Seems like being forthcoming and upfront would be a good thing here. If he's homesick, or something else, say so and move on.

Yesterday, Lamar Thornton retweeted Verbal Commits @verbalcommits tweet about Marvin Price entering transfer portal. And still...no announcement from the athletic department??? Everyone must be celebrating that big potato bowl win over a 6-6 Nevada team missing 10 players.

First of all they were 7-5. And Coach Boals likes to keep things private so he won’t say anything unless he is asked about it. I’m hoping Russ asks him about it today or at the show on Wednesday.

If Boals is so private, why did he allow his #1 assistant to retweet the Price portal news?

First of all they were 7-5.
Second of all, they were only missing 3.5 players.

Because the news was already out there. He didn’t give us any new information.

So the kid will be eligible wherever he lands for play starting Jan 1 2021?

According to Bannister in pregame, Marvin walked into coach's office and said he wasn't feeling the love for the game anymore. Which, okay, fine if that's the truth. But he put his name in the transfer portal, which is suspect.

Per Jason Arkley:

"Freshman forward Marvin Price, a three-star recruit from Baltimore, left the program earlier in the week.

Price, 6-5, has been removed from Ohio’s active online roster. On Friday, Ohio stated that Price was leaving the team to “deal with some personal issues.” Several recruiting tracking sites reported Saturday that Price’s name has been submitted into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Price had appeared in just seven (of 13) games this season and seen little playing time. The freshman had just 52 minutes — with 20 total points and six total rebounds — in his seven appearances."

Disappointing when anyone with potential leaves the program.

That said, this is the new norm in college basketball. We best get used to it.

Thanks to Jason Arkley for providing, in the Messenger today, more about the matter that needed to be said to help provide some level of closure.

This one is extremely baffling....Salt Lake CC????

If I were to speculate, grades could have been an issue with Price. And I never understood why Boals in the Arkley article about Price leaving a few weeks back said he was unaware if Price was in the portal or not. He obviously knew...Lamar Thornton even tweeted about it before Arkley article came out. That was a disappointing response from Boals.

I disagree. This is what we should be hearing. I'm tired of the "we wish him well in his future endeavors" stuff.

Who cares if he ended up in the portal or not. Who cares where he ended up. Fans care. Coaches shouldn't....or that don't need to publicly.

He is gone. In no way can he help the team. Move forward as a team and don't worry about things that you cannot control.

When did Jay Kinney leave? Probably more, just thought of that one off the top of the head. Oh yeah, when did Marquis Horne leave?

Jay Kinney was booted off the team a few games into MAC play. Marquis Horne played two exhibitions and then left on his own before the season opener.

I can't believe that to be true. There's no way he would've been able to play high school basketball at age 20 last year.

over/under?

Will Price play at more/fewer colleges than Tariq Owens?

Tariq was associated (didn't play at all of them) Ohio, Tenn., St. John's and T Tech. Am I missing any?

Price at Ohio and new JC - and only in the middle of freshman year.

At this rate, he'll shatter Owens' accomplishments.

No one will ever top Rio Adams when it comes to school movement in high school and college.

I like this angle - I'm not wishing him ill (unless he ends up at Akron ;) ), but I'm rooting for Bobcats that stayed here. And I'm fine with a coach giving a generalized, but accurate response about what actually happened. Not sure why the response is "disappointing"?
