While updating this, I noticed something called the MAAC/ASun Challenge. Thought this was pretty cool. Four mens and four womens teams play two games in two days down at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney. I think it would be a good trip / event for the MAC to duplicate against a comparable conference.

Mississippi Valley State may be the worst D1 team in our lifetimes. They've lost their first three games by 36, 94*, and 56 (to CMU). In those three games they gave up 110, 143 and 134 points.

* Biggest margin of D1 opponents in history.

Can you imagine being a mid-major like Evansville, or us for that matter, and going into the #1 team in the country's building...a historic program liek Kentucky, and winning. What a thrill.

MAC gets three road wins tonight.

Also, Villanova is going to be ticked off Saturday after the 25 point beat down OSU laid on them tonight.

Neither of these compare to actually beating the #1 ranked UK team on the road.

As Barney Stinson would say.... challenge accepted!!

How about Ohio picking up 20% of it's season win total during the wilderness campaign of 1997-98 by beating fellow 5-win Central Michigan 122-121 in double OT?

On a semi-side note, I love any chance I get to bring up both the "Wilderness Campaign" and one of the most entertaining games I remember seeing in the Convo... Even if it was a battle of bad teams. I'll never forget Jay Smith stomping his feet at every call that went against them.

Don't know about about that. Kentucky was ranked, and this bounced them out of the tournament. The Evansville defeat probably won't stop them from being a top four seed in March, unless they do a complete flop and never recover mentally from this loss, which isn't likely.

Of course, his lucky off balance heave to beat the shot clock in CLE helped get them into the NCAAs that year. Certainly nothing his never-finished-higher-than-third coach did.

* Good weekend for MAC hoops with Ohio's loss to top 20 team the only MAC loss.

* Three MAC teams played in NBA arenas over the weekend. Ohio in Philly, UB in Toronto and BSU in Indy.

* Man, I love ESPN+. And with big-time college football/basketball looking more and more professional w/o true student/athletes, I find myself gravitating more and more to MAC telecasts and away from power conference teams and games.

UT just let a win slip away at ND. Two turnovers in final minute with lead by team leaders M. Jackson and Knapke. UT had best PG on the floor (M Jackson), best center (Knapke) and best rebounder (W Jackson). ND misses 3 with 1.5 sec left in regulation down 3 but ball gets wedged between rim and backboard with possession arrow going ND's way. ND hits fade-away 3 at buzzer to get to OT.

I've been a big ND fan since before seeing Adrian Dantley lead the Irish to a win at osu in 1973, a couple of years after seeing my first home football game in South Bend. Yet I found myself rooting for UT and the MAC.

Now, excuse me as I go say a prayer of repentance.

Notre Dame actually missed a free throw with 6.8 left and got an offensive rebound. The guy tried to put it back up to make it a one-point game but was blocked and then threw it out for the 3 that wedged in between the rim and the backboard. So much went Notre Dame's way in the final few seconds to allow them to tie the game.
