Jordie played the game in front of his high school coach of 4 years, Jeff Quackenbush. After morning practice (no school today in Newark), Quack drove to Olean to catch his former player return to the court after a year off. Not sure he rooted for, however, as he played for the Bonnies in the 1990s.
Very cool for coach to make that drive!

Really impressed by what we saw out of our head coach tonight. Congrats Jeff Boals. Can't wait to see what he can do with a full line-up to work with.
Thought some of the lineup combinations he used were pretty interesting particularly in the first half. Looked like he was seeing how the guys would respond. We also looked a lot more cohesive on defense than we did at any point last year. Rebounding is definitely a work in progress.

Lots to digest, we don't know if St Bonaventure was overrated, were caught flat footed, or we were under performing even more than some of us thought last year. One thing I do know, it has been a while since I felt this good about an early season performance against a quality opponent. Couple that with a young and injury riddle team, and we have lots to look forward to at this point in the year. While this performance will certainly get the notice of our future opponents, especially conference opponents, it will certainly help our young squad believe anything is possible!

Preston's offensive rebound and put back at the end of the first half was sweet

I agree with this assessment. Very impressive win. And Preston, what a game! His passing is just phenomenal. Last year I said that I thought he'd eventually be on virtually the same level as DJ Cooper. I was told to quit the blasphemy. I'll repeat it now: Preston will be at least as good as DJ. He's a real athletic guy who, like DJ, seems at times to have eyes in the back of his head. His moves around the basket are so smooth. What about the time he had his shot blocked and as he's falling out of bounds he knocks his own blocked shot over to a guy under the basket who has a layup. That should be on Sports Center tonight!

I'm enjoying eating crow tonight. I thought without the four injured guys, we wouldn't stand a chance up there. One of our best wins in quite awhile.

Is that 13!!! rebounds in the box score right for Preston? Wow - that’s fantastic.
13 assists...6 rebounds.
Actually even better. Much better.
Preston also only had 1 foul and 4 turn overs while playing all 40 minutes. Great game.

Very impressive to win on the road vs a A-10 team. Road wins are tough even against bottom conference teams. Bobcats had lots of assist. Not bad turnover number for an opening game especially on the road. We shot well too from down town. St Bonaventure was ice cold from three and that was the difference. Bobcats showed they have some pieces if they can stay healthy. Boals get 1st win out of the way. Dartis back healthy helps a lot. 19 points tonite showed he getting back to where he was before the injuries.

Along with all of that he was still playing 3/4 press late in the game. What a motor!

To see Coach Boals dance with the team in the locker room after tonight's win just shows the joy and excitement that has been utterly lacking in this program the previous five years. I know it's only one game, but damn...it's hard not to see what Boals has already brought to this program. It begins with recruiting...pounding the pavement and drumming up excitement with students...showing a personality on social media..and of course winning games. I have no idea how many wins this team is going to win in his first season, but I know it's going to be fun to watch either way. He's building this program the right way.

That kind of joy and excitement probably hasn't existed in this program for 10,15,20, maybe 25 years. It's definitely not just the last 5.

He's an alumnus, and it obviously means THAT much more to him. I'm really glad for that, I'm excited, but I think you're taking that one moment and projecting quite a bit. I'll imagine that's the last time you'll see emotion like that post-game until they beat Miami. 😉

Preston made some passes last night that reminded me of DJ. He’s clearly got that feel for the game and court vision that’s hard to teach. His stat line last night looked like a DJ Cooper line too... contributing in every category.

First time in a long time we’ve had a win like this to start the season!

It's been a while for sure and I think the combo of the low expectations, injuries, and a road game vs. solid team (reputation wise) made this win all the more sweeter too. Very pumped about it all and I know there is a long way to go and there's plenty of holes and concerns but I'm enjoying the ride...

I also do not mind eating a massive plate of crow after I stated that without the injured four we'd lose by 25!!! But maybe my optimistic post later is what turned the tide!!! My internal voice is saying "It's only one game, it's only one game" but then I just can't help but be energized!!! To win in Olean with a bench consisting of 3 guys who are 6-8, 6-9, 6-10 and only three true wings is outstanding. I just have to say, not too negatively, that two stats did jump out at me...Springs with ZERO rebounds and McMurray 0 for 3 from the field and they were all THREES? Get inside big fellas. When the wings return your time will be spent in there! And Foster, for a freshman big, great debut!

I don't yet know what McMurray's strengths are. Those three attempts were all chucks. Springs is not a center. In fact, he's more a 3 than a 5, or as Bomani Jones would say, there's a difference between "big man" and "tall man".

Once we get the other guys back, I can't imagine McMurray seeing the floor as much as he did last night. He can't be chucking three's like that every game.

A big time pleasant surprise last night. What a bonus if we can get that effort consistently out of Foster throughout the year.

I think those are the two guys who lose significant playing time when we get to full strength.

Holy. Crap.

First, I will admit...Everything went our way tonight. I think St Bonnie just played what will be their worst game of the season...They got out of rhythm and took a lot of bad shots. They were 2 for 18 from 3 before a cheap one at the end...Honestly they reminded me of us last year. And I also thought we got the better end of most the calls.

But credit the Bobcats for disrupting them, I think the defense was tremendous. 7 steals from Jason Preston, holy crap. And 13 assists. Listen...Teyvion Kirk had 13 assists in the first NINE conference games last year COMBINED. Let that sink in.

Dartis' presence extends the floor, opening up many of those assists. I was shaking with excitement when he hit 3 trays early on...God I missed having a player that can knock them down. Even though he went cold after the early hot streak, the established threat helped us throughout the game.

I saw some exciting things from some of the newcomers but the truth is the stars of this game were the big 3 returners - Preston, BVP, & Dartis. I love that they stayed loyal to their remaining teammates and their university and am really happy for them.

Can't wait to see how they do at Iona. I expect that game to be close to a toss up...I hope at least ROderick will be back. If they cruise to victory again, they will be riding high going into our daunting opponents.
