Unless I'm mistaken, this hasn't been discussed yet in here, which if so, is shocking to me.

I meant to post about it Sunday after the game but couldn't remember the whole name that Lou announced. I went over to check it out late in the second half. Very nice setup. Because it's not very big, I wonder if they'll allow people to spill out into the concourse with their drinks. This kind of makes the Rohr Room admittance a little less valuable other than the free popcorn and water. Hopefully they'll have some good music playing in the bar although I didn't see any speakers (doesn't mean they aren't there, just didn't notice any).

Thanks Alan.

A couple questions I thought of:

-How may screens were in the bar area?

-Do they sell food of any kind?

I saw four screens. Not sure about the food. It looks like some of the bar/table tops were made out of old gym flooring (perhaps from the Convo or Grover). On the left wall when you enter are displays with pictures and articles in four groups - 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s (I believe). Unfortunately becuase they're on the way behind seating, they will be hard to see/get to when people are seated at the tables. I climbed up on the benches to read them all on Sunday. Some pretty neat stuff.

So assume they show the game in the bar on all four TVs so fans can watch from there.

I swung by on Sunday, it looked awesome. I want my basement to look just like this. Interesting concept, plenty of TVs but still ultimately takes you away from the live action. Definitely interested to see how well it is received.

They are advertising a "happy hour" from 7:30 to 8:30 for the Purdue game. I have not seen any particulars as to what that means. I'm hoping the prices fall somewhere between uptown prices and Peden prices.

The room is the former Ohio Athletic Trainers Assoc. Hall of Fame if you visited the 2nd floor or main concourse.

Bench and bar front are old Convo floor. Table tops and bar top are old Baker bowling lanes. Beer similar to regular concessions stand beer, take it anywhere, bar has wine as well. Food can be ordered at bar and I think staff go and get it from back of house/concessions. All work, including unique metal work for standing table area done in house by shops staff. Very nicely done.

As we all know there are dorm rooms in the convo. So the question that begs to be ask - "Does this make OU the only university in the country that has a bar in in a dorm??? " ;-)

I'm curious - where are they advertising this? The arena opens 90 minutes before tip?

We had a bar in the College Inn (Bromley Hall)but as you mentioned it was not owned by the university at that time.

From Best of Athens 2013: Second best party dorm is Bromley Hall, the closest thing Athens has to a high-rise. Back in the old days, Bromley even had a black-lighted bar – the Deck – in the ground floor.

I had a roommate who was a bartender at The Deck in mid 70's. He got fired for giving us too many free beers!

I thought he was just referring to the bars in the actual dorms, like we all had in our mini fridges and closets. :)

We made it a point to arrive early yesterday to check it out and get a drink before the game. They did a good job setting it up. Far nicer than I expected.. It's a nice complement/alternative to grabbing a drink in the Rohr Room, which tends to get a little crowded at times.

Like other said, they have some of the old/original baseline Convo wood to make the bar & walls, which is a nice touch. And some old photos from 90s/80s/70s/60s (but not 2000s I don't think). I'm guessing it may evolve but it's a very nice addition to the Convo, for anyone that arrives early.

Just curious to hear from those in the know how popular this has continued to be so far? I walked by before the Purdue game but haven’t been by it since. It was pretty packed then.

I walked by at halftime Tuesday. Three patrons and one bartender. Not sure what it's like before the game. The contrast in prices between a beer uptown and a beer in the Convo may very well be a deterrent for some. People in Athens are used to very cheap drinks - very cheap.

I like the bar. The beer is not cheap but expected prices. I would like to see them add unique (no concession food) food to this area. It would be nice for those who arrive early. If it catches on, add another with it's own unique food and beer.
