Tennessee Tech really struggles to score. They have failed to to score 50 points in three games this far. The opponents in those games? UNC Greensboro, Appalachian State, and Montana State. They don't shoot well from anywhere and commit more than 17 turnovers per game. Their best outing may just be taking Wright State to overtime. They defend okay, but we have no business letting these guys hang around.

Any update on Dartis’ injury/status for this one?

I say we use Dartis sparingly if at all. This is a game we should be able to get without him. We need him healthy for January.

How about any of your opinions about Price? Weird that he barely played in other games and all of a sudden gets a chance against an inferior opponent and goes off? Is he not as good as thought by recruiting services/rankings? Was he that hurt and out of shape that he needed that much time to come back? What is Price for us this year? He obviously isn't a redshirt candidate so how does he not play against Mercy? I find it weird how we have no information regarding Miles Brown or Murrell's status in terms of what exactly is their injury etc. If anyone has insight and not theory, let me know.

It looks like the price is right, he will need to play his way into shape, he can definitely play basketball in the MAC, he just needs to get in shape and listen to the coaches. When I say listen to the coaches I am not saying he hasn’t, I am saying he needs to know what they expect from him.

Good guy. I wonder if he was in the mix for the OU job?

Mark applied for the AD job this past yimr, he made the first “cut” but no further, he did not have an agent “ in front of him” which might have hurt him
He would have been a good choice

Dartis not in lineup and Foster goes down midway thru 1st half and headed directly to the locker room. The injuries just continue to mount for this program.

Truly is incredible. If Foster is out for extended period, Nate starts getting 10 minutes per game. Boals might have to grab Jerry LeBold off the football team to just have enough players for practice.

3 homes games since Myrtle Beach and 3 player injuries: Roderick v. Detroit; Dartis v. Rio; Foster v. Tenn Tech.

At this rate, Boals will be down to 6 scholarship players at the end of 2019.

TnTech is going to get destroyed in the OVC. Not just by Murray and Belmont.

BTW... did you guys see how Murray smacked down MTSU? Poor little middle.

If those guy are not ready by the Purude game, do you think Boals might rest them vs Morehead State who is really not very good. Maybe less good than even TnTech.

Look it up but I believe Alec Burton on the football team was All Indiana in hoops.

I took my boys down the autograph line yesterday and used it as an opportunity to get an injury report.

- Roderick replied "for sure" when I asked him if he would be back for MAC play.
- Dartis said he is "good to go"...I took to mean he was out for just TT game but as far as he knows, will be cleared going forward.
- Foster said he didn't feel too bad but I didn't press him for details.

First, the crowd. I know holidays, finals, bad opponent...but school IS in session. Holy crap it did not look like there was a single student there. I think every student in attendance got a gift in the promotion...and Rufus literally had to go thru scanning the crowd to look for young people that might be students. I'll continue to be baffled and appalled by this.

The team looked good. TT didn't shoot well at all...and had several close ones roll off...but I like to think most of their struggles were due to our defense.

Preston and BVP are legit scorers. What a great Sophomore tandem we have in them...we saw the potential last year and they are playing like upperclass leaders at this point. They each had 2-3 great defensive efforts on run-outs. These 2 guys alone keep us out of the cellar for sure in my book, add Dartis is amazingly we have as good of a returning trio as anyone in the MAC.

McDay & McMurray (Can we call them the Big Mac Bros? OK maybe not...) did not stuff the stat sheet but I thought looked really good. Good positioning, smart conservative play overall.

Preston seemed very determined to have Marvin Price on the wing to dish to him. I think he got 3-4 shots up after Preston passes and I saw him 2-3 times talking to Marvin about getting to that spot (at least that is what it looked like to me). This could have been him trying to have him fill Jordan's role.

I hope to see a heavy dose of Price & Brown in the Morehead St and Campbell games. They both have the tools.

In the end at this point, the Bobcats remind me of my 13U travel baseball team. When facing appropriate "2nd tier" competition, they compete really well and are solid fundamentally. When the opponent is bigger and/or plays at a higher pace and level overall...they aren't able to execute in the same way. I know this sounds like "duh you just explained every mid-major team" but I think some teams show flashes of brilliance that shows they can compete with anyone, or flashes of ugliness that shows they can totally lay an egg. Right now I feel like our guys fall squarely in the middle of that spectrum, so I expect them to do well in the MAC.

When walking off the floor at the end of the game Foster appeared to be walking about as normal as could be expected with a boot. Boals, in the post-game conference, also alluded to him not having crutches as being a good thing. Hopefully it's nothing too serious. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the update...love hearing first hand! As for the crowd, that is going to take some time and probably some winning for the fans to come around. With all of the Saulpologists out there the one thing they never truly could debate was that he did not connect with the crowds and the students. Sure he had some visits to dining halls. But social media and a consistent presence on campus was not his forte. If Boals is here longer than 2 years the house will be rockin. Unfortunately Saul didn't have that spirit for the Cats that Boals has and rightfully so. The dude is better served in the Finger Lakes.

Saul's engagement with the students reminded me of when you're a teenager and you bring your friends to your house to hang out and your dad embarrasses you with normal dad-isms. The schtick can work with the older crowd but can come off as unnatural to 20 year olds.

Bad basketball the last two years killed student engagement more than lack of a social media presence. Even less basketball savvy young people know they don't enjoy turnovers, poor shooting, blowing leads, missing front ends of a 1 and 1.

We were at the game too, and the crowd felt so dull. A smaller crowd last Saturday against Rio Grande actually felt more alive to me than yesterday's crowd. I'm planning on being there for the Purdue game and am really worried about crowd turnout for a 9pm game over winter break.

I am a huge fan of McDays. I like him significantly more than McMurray. I know McDay's stats are never outrageous, but he brings an energy to the game every time he is on the court. Plays great defense, goes after ever loose ball, crashes the boards, has good basketball IQ, makes relatively few mistakes. I've been really impressed with him as a true freshman starting from day 1. I'm excited to see what the next four years with him brings.

Who is better served in the Finger Lakes?

Also, unless some terrible happens, Boals will be here for much more than 3 years.

Thanks for this scouting report. Assuming it comes to fruition, it's great to hear. Those two make a huge difference for this team.
