Interesting old article posted over on the Zips board. I never heard the whole story of Bubba's transfer, and I'd love to hear the perspective from Ohio's side.

https://buchtelite.com/2896/archive/guards-transfer-under... /
Wow, so much for the "We wish him well in his future endeavors" canned quote. Dambrot sounds a little butthurt.
I remember the transfer not being a smooth one. All the timings mentioned in the article seem off. Mentions of "this season", "last season" but the article is dated in May of '07 and if I remember correctly, Bubba had to sit until winter quarter started in 2007. His first game with us was a Friday night home game against Akron (Jerome Tillman with two huge alley-oops). Real live wire O Zone in that one - yours truly won a Hungry Howie's pizza in a halftime promotion.

I remember Bubba drew the ire of Ohio fans with his play early on with his chucking 30 footers. Sometimes they'd go in. He suffered some injury his senior year and Bert Whittington started in his place. When he returned for the final stretch of 2008, he was a whole new player. He won us that George Mason Bracketbuster game which remains one of my favorite memories in Ohio fandom.
Now that you're mentioning that, I do believe you're right and he didn't play until winter quarter.

And who could forget Leon's desperation three as the shot clock expired against George Mason?

Boals in the pre-game interview said he didn’t think he would be out multiple games. McMurray also out tonight.

Sports center top ten punch out for Preston. We need to make layups and free throws. What a grown man, got to get a bucket move.

Beyond frustrating. Preston inability to make driving layups in second half hurt. Don’t understand his desperation three with 28 seconds left down four. BVP non factor after twisting ankle was a killer. Get healthy and beat Miami.

Akron turned up the intensity and our young guys did not answer. Saw Roderick play some awful D on several possessions and after a solid first half Murrell was bad to finish. Missed Vest and BVP when they went out as well as Dartis. Preston had to do too much. I still love this team but Kron built with sr and jr transfers so a ton of 4 and 5 yr guys. I just hope our guys are not hurt going into Fiami.

Heard a sermon recently entitled, “Guard your heart.” It had nothing to do with OHIO Hoops, or irrelevant things like sports, but I applied the concept tonight as i was emotionally prepared for the eventual meltdown.

Yeah, that 2nd half sucked, but I’ll walk away from tonight with this: Get me to Cleveland with a relatively healthy lineup, and I’ll take my chances. We’ll be underdogs against pretty much everyone, but there isn’t a single team in the conference that is unbeatable this year.

I hear ya. I didn't even jump up on Preston's dunk. I had a feeling we were going to fall. So, so young. Just think..we are 15-15 with 7 MAC wins with 2 sophs leading us, 8 guys with various injuries, 28 freshmen and a grad student who played sparingly at Ga Tech. Boals has exceeded my expectations. Need key guys to stay with a couple move on and add a JUCO and grad to Granger (BVP 2.0), White (6-5 athlete) and Towns (lengthy athlete with a year of prep).

Per Arkley—other than Preston, O FG the last 14 minutes of regulation.

Think I’d frame all pregame speeches and routines.
Probably do the opposite for halftime stuff.

Can’t decide if it’s wait til next year or next week. There were some great moments early. If we get far enough in the tournament, we have a chance to finish the job. Remember in our first run in the NCAA, we started by beating Ball State , an also-ran, in overtime.

Roderick has a long way to go. Plays so soft. Overall excited with the progress we've seen, though. Boals has done a great job. Need a big man for next year.

Missed all 3 second-half front end of one-and-ones, missing out on a potential 6 points.

With full disclosure that I saw only the last 5-6 minutes of the game...

We scored 50 in the first half and 17 in the second half. A 14-point lead melted away in the last 14 minutes.

Even though this would have been an upset... that looks like a choke.
