Up six with 13 minutes left and Dartis sits for 4 minutes and we don't score. That changed the complexion of first half. Against these top 25 teams, there is no margin for error. I understand taking Dartis out for the 12 minute timeout, but was surprised he wasn't back on the floor after the timeout. We lost all our mojo during that 4 minute stretch without Dartis and I believe we went 6 minutes without a point.
Ten minutes left in game, McMurray misses both FTs on the flagrant and we were doomed from there. We got the ball and it could have been a five point swing and who knows if that happened if we could have keep it under 10 the rest of the way. Missing those free throws was a huge momentum killer. I'm very curious to see how far McMurray moves down the bench now that we have Roderick and hopefully Price can contribute soon. And can we discuss the officiating. The first and third fouls on Preston were not fouls. And to call a foul with .6 tenths of a second left before halftime on a scrum under the basket is ridiculous.
With all that said, absolutely can't beat playing Villanova...Baylor and Utah...back to back to back. I know there were a ton of questions about the schedule, but how can you beat this...especially with Purdue on the horizon? It has to be the most difficult non-con schedule in recent memory.
I think we can still do special things this year. Nobody expected to beat 'Nova and Baylor. I do wish the scores were closer to 10 though and not 20. But you can see what Boals is building. If he can get some points in the paint down the road, it will help tremendously.
Very curious to see how we come out against Utah. When the bracket came out, nobody expected us to play more than one Power 5 team in this tourney. Maybe the Utes just went to get back on a plane and head to Salt Lake...we'll see. Go 'Cats.
