Just kidding. They hired Bryce Drew who lost 59 games in three seasons at Vandy right after Stallings had VU in the big dance six times in the previous 10 years. The joke is on GCU.

This does save Vandy around 4 million bucks of buyout money iirc (?) With a gym that's older than Methuselah's mother, 4 million bucks can spruce a few things up.

Since he was fired at Vandy, they’ll have to pay him the difference between his Vandy salary and GCU salary until the end of the contract period, unless there was something very unusual about the terms of his contract.

I think it's a great hire by GCU. Vanderbilt is an epic mess right now and Drew proved he could win before at Valpo and was getting top-end recruits at Vanderbilt. Problem was they were impatient as heck and cost themselves dearly.

GCU has a new arena (2010), capacity of 7000 and they regularly sell out. It is a raucous crowd with a distinct home court advantage (.823 home winning %). For a mid-major, it's a pretty good job but I'm surprised they let Marejle go. Not a bad place for Drew to land.

Firing Drew was the best move by a Vanderbilt A.D. since the day college baseball coaching legend Tim Corbin was hired. Drew was statistically proven to be the worst men's basketball coach in SEC history. Drew still had 5-star big man Simi Shittu and top-15 NBA draft pick Aaron Nesmith plus Yanni Wetzell who started at 30-2 San Diego State plus Notre Dame transfer Matt Ryan who averaged over 15ppg at Chattanooga. And second-team All-SEC guard Saben Lee (18ppg this season). That should have been enough talent to go to the sweet sixteen.

He went 0-18 with all that talent. He is the worst coach in SEC history. My mother-in-law from the old country could have done better.

The only thing that cost VU dearly was hiring Bryce Drew in the first place.
