Give me a JUCO guard who can score. I like McDay and Roderick but for next year we just need someone who can put the ball in the hoop a lot.
Everyone who knows me on the site know my philosophy: you CAN'T have enough bigs!!!! So I contend we DESPERATELY need a post player who is at least 6-10, long, can finish reasonably well at the cup and is a rim protector. That's what's needed to take a giant step next season. So this guy has to be ready to rock and roll right away and let Foster and Springs continue their growth; I don't expect either to be a prime-time player next season.
Therefore, this recruit probably has to come from the JC or grad transfer pool--a guy along the lines of Ogbonda, but a better finisher and rim protector. Naturally, you take a four-star or very high three-star recruit at the position, but that's unlikely.
But we've GOT to get this done. If so, next season will be very, very, very interesting!!!
Serious question: when has Ohio EVER had that kind of guy when they made their deep runs in the MAC Tournament or NCAA Tournament? John Smith was the closest to what you're talking about, but even he never had the all-around offensive game. Those 6'10" guys you're talking about don't exist at the MAC level. If they are that skilled they are going to a bigger program.
If they're not, they are a Wadley Mompremier or Ogbonda type guy like we've had in the past. But I don't think that's what you're referring to. Maybe I'm wrong.
Most of Ohio's great big men have been strong power forwards: Trent, Hunter, Williams, Tillman, Keely, etc. Gimme a 6'8" guy with some beef to him and we'll be fine.
