I know this topic has been thrown out during the year, but it seems confusing. Do all NCAA Division-One teams have 15 scholarships to give starting next season?

If so, would this give us 4 scholarships to play with currently or 2 scholarships. Do Chase Boals and Estis somehow count towards the 15 even though they aren't on scholarship?

Walk-Ons

12.) Estis
13.) Boals

Old max was 13 for D1 mbb; now it's 15. Doesn't mean all low end schools can afford that because there's bigger bumps in softball, volleyball, baseball etc.

Don't think there's a roster cap like football so walk-ons should be treated like before.

It's going to work like baseball where you could potentially pass out partial scholarships. I still think the magic number is 13 because I don't know how much funding we'll have for 14 and 15.

I've seen this discussed but what actually is the rule?

15 players max?
15 scholarships max?
13 scholarships max?

It seems like you're saying 15 players (or even no limit to players on scholarship) but max of 13 full scholarships for the school to divide up how they wish (the baseball example with ability to give halfs quarters thirds etc).

But then people say schools won't likely add any bc they can't afford it. They already pay for 13 scholarships (and all the women's title 9 equivalents) so how is this any different unless we actually get more than 13 scholarships now?

I'm confused. What is what?

Spent a little time looking online, and from what I can tell the scholarships allotment will increase from 13 to 15, but the roster limit will stay at 15. Seems then that the walk-ons would have to either be given scholarships or be replaced (if we choose to use the full allotment).

Now that would make for an awkward dinner-table conversation at the Boals residence!

That's my read on it as well, including the awkward dinner conversation. BTC will tell us if we are right, or need to improve our reading comprehension! ;-)

Okay so the way I'm reading it is -

1) The NCAA increased max roster size from 13 to 15
2) They eliminated the head-count rule for scholarships where 1 player = 1 full scholarship, and it's now equivalency, such that players can receive partial scholarships.
3) With the ability to award partials, this means schools now have the ability to award up to 15 scholarships (1 for each player) - but are not REQUIRED to give out and pay for all 15. Instead they could choose to keep funding at the 13 scholarships level, and divide them up across the 15 player roster (Example: 11 full scholarships and 4 half scholarships = 13 scholarships for 15 players).

I don't see where you're FORCED to give scholarships, so walk-ons are still fine. They just count toward your 15 player max number though (Example: 13 full scholarships + 2 walk-ons = 13 scholarships for 15 players same as above).

Guess the real question is how many scholarships OU decides to fund (13-15).

We're currently at 13 players on the roster (including Boals and Estis), but 11 scholarships.

So 2 available roster spots for sure. Beyond that depends on funding and means either removing walk-ons and adding scholarship guys, awarding ships to walk-ons, or keeping status quo.
