OSU gets blown out by Northwestern at home, 70-49. Yikes. Talk about laying an egg.

Was I the only one who noticed a Fiami band member wearing a knit OSU hat on national television?

Down goes Toledo.
Ohio alone in 3rd place.

All things considered, Akron/Ohio aside, it looks like the two most dangerous teams in the tournament - Kent and WMU - will have the toughest roads to the title.

As No. 3 seed (Ohio) likely plays Eastern or Ball, then WMU/Miami Winner in the tournament. Win at nose-diving Toledo Tuesday locks up 3-seed.

Kent plays at WMU then hosts Eastern to end the season. Flashes have already lost once to WMU. Their work is not done.

Even if Kent somehow draws sinking Toledo in the opening round (and it could be Ball, a team they have lost to), they will get Akron next.

Bobcats just need to keep their heads down and take care of business.

Best case scenario is Kent/Akron semi is a knockdown dogfight and Ohio cleans up the mess for the title.

What on earth happened to Toledo? I know they were never great this year, but to lose by 13 to a terrible Buffalo squad with nothing to play for (they have already been eliminated from the MAC tournament) is perplexing. They have lost 5 of 6, and are one called-back buzzer beater vs Ball State away from a 6-game losing streak.

Then again, maybe this is all a grand roll of the dice by TK. Tank in February and hope the basketball gods reward him by finally letting them break their MAC tournament curse ;)

MVC Tournament is a great game so far. This Stirtz kid for Drake could be the next NCAA Tournament darling.

What the Drake Bulldogs did this season has to be studied. They lost basically their entire roster to either graduation or transfer, had seven new guys transfer in along with their recruiting class, and they still obliterated their schedule going 30-3 and winning the MVC regular season and tournament championships.

How?

Delaware is ahead in the CAA championship as a 12 seed. If they win, they would be the lowest seed to ever win their conference tournament and advance to the NCAA.

Come on Hens!

Meanwhile, 15-win St. Francis ended the nation's longest winning streak by knocking off Central Connecticut in their gym. First trip to the dance since 91 for the Flash.

Not sure how many watched it, but hell of a game by YSU down their best player. Thought they almost had it there a few times at the end, but Robert Morris' big guy took over and YSU didn't really have that go-to player to step up. Would've been crazy to lose your coach last season and make the NCAA tournament the following year.

I want Gabe Dynes so bad. I'm sure he's gonna be headed to Pitt or Ohio State or something like that - but that is the defensive presence we've needed.

As much as I love an upset during tournament week and a massive underdog making a run, the outcome of St. Francis beating Central Connecticut is just more incentive for one-bid leagues to award the regular season champion the tournament berth. Or to have a double, triple, or quadruple bye format, which I hate to see. CCSU has wins over UMass and St. Joe's and a four point loss to Providence. They would have been a scary 15 seed.

Big ups to Tommy Freeman and the Maine Black Bears. Snapped a 30+ game losing streak to AEC power Vermont and playing in the championship game Saturday against Bryant.

Speaking of Bryant, I caught some of their game last night. They got some grown ass men on that roster. Their main lineup looked like 6-5, 6-6, 6-8, 6-8, and 6-11. Athletic and high motor. We should get some of that.

The WCC and Sun Belt tournaments are so stupid. I can't believe this is what their leaders decided on for a format.

Mark Sears is 17 points away from breaking into the top 20 of the all time scoring list. Fifth year asterisk it if you want but that's what it is. With a deep tourney run it's conceivable he passes Larry Bird.

Kent State knocks off Stanford 77-75 in NIT second round. Beat St. Bonaventure earlier. Sullinger had 34 points. Loyola Chicago up next.
