I would like to think we can beat these guys on their homecourt because we're hot but maybe, just maybe, Kron is cocky/lacksadaisical because their Cleveland ticket is punched? And someone PLEASE GUARD LOREN JACKSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UB's Davonta Jordan, one of the best on-man defenders in the MAC, guarded Jackson yesterday. Held him to 35 points.

Yea, I think the best we can hope for is he's having an off day.

I'm keeping my hopes tempered for this one. Cats have been boatraced here when they had very strong rosters.

Bobcat wins in the JAR are not very common.

That, and keep Akron off the offensive glass as much as possible, thereby limiting his opportunities.

There has been some discussion on here about matchups and playing time. Perhaps this is one of those times when things might be shaken up a little. Preston and others have commented on Miles Brown’s intense defensive ability. Could his inclusion in the rotation guarding Jackson, along with perhaps Preston and McDay, be effective? Heck, maybe even Springs with his wingspan. Can Jackson be worn down some if he has to go hard all the time? Also, Preston, or others posting him up might be a liability for them.

I’m the first to admit I’m no expert and know Jeff and his coaches will give us the best chance to win. However, these things have crossed my mind.

I would absolutely make whoever Jackson is guarding play post-up offense.

And the best thing that could happen is he picks up fouls from guarding those post ups.

Preston posted him up rather well in the first game, which I think Boals went to too few times in the first game. The question I have is who is the best matchup defensively for Jackson? Who would Groce try to put him on to limit that? I guess it would be McDay/Roderick? Those two would have to play smart when they try to back down the little guy. To me, that just screams for an offensive foul/flop/charge call. And they'll give it to the vet over the young guy more often than not.

A match-up featuring the MAC East co-POTWs -- Preston and Jackson. I think Preston is the first men's POTW Ohio has had this season.

Preston has won 5 times, more than any player in the MACE (Turner has 3). Dartis has won once as well.

The link below has the winners. But only thru 2/10

Four others have to be able to shut down their guy and okay if Jackson lights us up as long as they are mostly threes and not easy drives.

Or McDay takes him and Akron fans apoplectic the St. V's star shut down defense takes over in the JAR!

Will be there plus3!!

Sagarin has us ranked 135 in it's "recent" category. Making us second in the MAC behind Akron at 80. Good time to peak. Playing D and not turning the ball over as much can keep it going...

8 and a half!!!!!!!!???? I don't know about that. I am sure Boals isn't one for using stupid things like that as motivation but what kind of disrespect is that?

And as far as Loren C-J, I agree that we need to shut down the other guys. The last time we played them the key wasn't Jackson's big game, it was Cheese with 16 and Williams and Banks with 12 each. Riak even had 8. We only lost by 2 and had them to the buzzer during what would turn into a 4-game losing skid. We are 5-2 since that losing streak. Let's keep C-J to 20 points and Cheese to 10 and we win this game. I have a particularly annoying Kron fan so COME ON CATS!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, and toss me in as one who would love to see Boals start Brown instead of Roderick and have Brown chase and annoy C-J for 5 minutes then bring in McDay then throw Springs for a couple of minutes. Heck, I'd use McMurray's 5 fouls just to go out and get in his grill. Why do we not use McMurray's obvious exhuberance?

I don't know, 8.5 seems fair. Akron's already beaten Ohio by 2 at Ohio's place; another 6.5 points for a 22-7 team playing a home game against a team it's already beaten (a team with a less than stellar road record) doesn't seem far fetched to me.

Agreed. Vegas lines are not about respect, or disrespect. They don't care.

Agree. If this game were on a neutral floor, Akron would be a 4 or 5 point favorite. At home, they are favored by 8.5. Seems reasonable.

Seems like accurate disrespect. Not saying we can't win the game but the line seems reasonable.

Interesting old article posted over on the Zips board. I never heard the whole story of Bubba's transfer, and I'd love to hear the perspective from Ohio's side.

Wow, so much for the "We wish him well in his future endeavors" canned quote. Dambrot sounds a little butthurt.

I remember the transfer not being a smooth one. All the timings mentioned in the article seem off. Mentions of "this season", "last season" but the article is dated in May of '07 and if I remember correctly, Bubba had to sit until winter quarter started in 2007. His first game with us was a Friday night home game against Akron (Jerome Tillman with two huge alley-oops). Real live wire O Zone in that one - yours truly won a Hungry Howie's pizza in a halftime promotion.

I remember Bubba drew the ire of Ohio fans with his play early on with his chucking 30 footers. Sometimes they'd go in. He suffered some injury his senior year and Bert Whittington started in his place. When he returned for the final stretch of 2008, he was a whole new player. He won us that George Mason Bracketbuster game which remains one of my favorite memories in Ohio fandom.
