Despite the small crowd, that might have been the most exciting game in the Convo this year. Sure, it was a one and done tournament game, but there were many other factors that contributed to the electricity in the arena. First, the platinum sections were packed. Cudos to the ticket office for taking care of platinum season ticket holders and packing other fans into those four sections. It was as full as it's been in years. Heck, even Nellis and his wife moved down to section 4 on the aisle. He's a big fan of defense by the way. Second, there were no promotions - just game play and time outs with - drum roll please - the band playing. It seemed like the 80s all over again - pure basketball. At three, when music was occassionally piped in, it was appropriate for the situaiton and the crowd.

That's awesome to hear. We have to live with promotions as they help pay the bills, but I hope those in charge noticed that 3300 packed into the lower sections is better than 3300 spread throughout the arena. I've said multiple times here and in my survey response to Schaus that the lower sections should be sold on an individual game basis. Price them so that they don't undercut your season ticket holders, but at least make them available. I'd pay $40 for sections 1-4 if I'm coming into town only once a year.

The high school tournament ought to go for proximity too. The current setup reminds me of the "pit high school gyms" built in the 20s at places like Philo, Akron East and Alliance. It sure was tough to shoot free throws in those places with lots of fans right behind the baskets.

Send the same thoughts in a letter to ticketing and the new AD. I can assure you, ticketing actually pays attention to messages. They've contacted me back a couple times when I had questions, and I think they do a really good job.
