Either way, I hope McGuff turns it around for selfish reasons. If we have to go after an at large bid (hope not, because of the screw-the MAC attitude of the committee), I want this win to mean something. Won't mean much if we beat a team that finishes 14-16.

I think that if there were lines on women's regular season games that Ohio probably would have been favored in their building. It isn't a shocking upset win at any rate. Ohio was slightly better last year and returned most of the minutes with key players also coming off injury or transfer redshirt.
My pal who came to the game with me, Buckeye alum and fan, also said Ohio would be favored.

Looks like Jeff Boals has already posted "Great road win for The Ohio University Bobcats! OHIO". And yes, the "T" was capitalized. I guess if there was ever any doubt by anyone about where his loyalties lie they now know. ; )
Seriously? Why or how would anyone questions Jeff’s loyalties?
No one except for any lurking Ohio State fans. Since in their minds it's usually all about them, it was directed at them.

Plus, for Bobcats fans, it was an attempt at humor.

About what I expected from the Dispatch this morning. The story was written by an intern (author identifies himself as such on twitter). Spends a single line on Erica Johnson. Doesn't mention Columbus' own Amani Burke who played game of her life. No quotes from Bob. No quotes from anyone in green and white. Despite a beautiful picture of Gabby Burris on front sports page, the story is shameful. If the Burke family subscribes to this rag, I bet they won't for long!

Veteran reporter Ken Gordon does a much better job with a piece covering the life adventures of Shaun Stonerook. He now runs a bakery in Westerville. He still has the hair.

I would post links, but both stories are behind paywall.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they were already not subscribers.

Amani did have a great game but not sure it’s better than the night she had 11 made 3s to break the Ohio record and tie the MAC. The article certainly didn’t give much credit to the Bobcats.

On another note I don’t remember any OHIO cheers from the buckeyes except for the band after made foul shots and those were very quiet.

FYI for any Bobcats in the Austin area, the Alumni chapter is throwing a get together for the Lady Bobcats game at Texas on on December 18th. We are getting group tickets as well.

Back in the Convo tomorrow for a game against Incarnate Word, a Southland Conference school from San Antonio TX. They were previously D2, but transitioned to D1 in 2017. They are 2-1, with both of their wins against non-D1 schools and their loss against UTSA (Massey ranking 291 of 351). They were picked to finish last in the preseason SLC poll. Massey ranks UIW at 331, and projects a 99% probability of an Ohio win, by 25 points. Put another way, if Ohio loses to this team, all chance of at an-large bid flies away.

They do have some strengths. They are an experienced team, with 7 seniors and 2 juniors on the roster. #11 Imani Robinson, at 5'11", is a very good athlete who drives and scores well. So does #10 Victoria Jackson. Point guard #0 Macy Ray takes about 70% of her shots from three, and makes them at a .351 clip. #5 Kara Speer is also a good 3-point shooter. UIW does have a 2-2-1 full-court press, a defense which gave Ohio a lot of trouble against Ohio State.

Gametime is at 1:00 PM, and is on ESPN3.

It would be nice to most of the ladies get some playing time. This is the easiest game on the schedule. There are 6 power teams. American, I believe, won the Patriot last year. IUPUI is the second best program in the Horizon. Then there is Marshall which might the the third weakest team on the schedule even though they are a middling CUSA team. UT-Chattanooga is the other pretty easy non-conference game but they should be close to as good as Marshall and a lot better than Incarnate Word.

There might not turn out to be numerous teams trying to build at-large resumes coming down the MAC stretch as there has been over the last 3 or 4 years but I don't see a bad team in the MAC so far at all. All 12 might be better than, say, a team of Marshall's caliber. Even with a couple of the better coaches gone MAC women's basketball still looks rock solid.

Everybody that dressed played at least 13 minutes, and nobody played more than 22. RS FR Abby Garnett looks like she has a good scoring touch around the rim, and at 6'1", provides some much needed size in the post. Alexandra Antonova, the other RS FR, is 6'2", but she has not dressed this year and continues to wear a leg brace.

Joe, Alexandra has a complete ACL tear again! I feel so bad for that girl! Really nice young lady. Her father was a pro basketball player in Russia and he had an ACL tear too, but he came back from it. I hope Alexandra is able to come back from the two tears.

I don't demean opponents, I seldom say anything bad about an opponent...but this is just the truth: UIW may be the weakest team I've seen in the Convo. We could have named the score against them. Their ball handling was really poor. I hope their program gets on track and that they move up the ladder in the Southland. They do have a few women who have some skills. Walsh would really beat up on this team and they are Div II of course.

Despite this, we looked good Saturday...a lot of good things about our play.

Hasn't UIW only been in Division 1 like a year and half? Their football program isn't exactly going great guns either, but they do have several victories this year over fellow FCS opponents. Give 'em a little time.

They have been in Division 1 for about 5 years.

Ohio got one vote on the coaches' top 25 poll this week.

They are up to #5 in this ESPN mid-major poll: https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id...

The Bobcats play Pitt and Butler the next two days in Daytona Beach. I think Butler actually will be the tougher challenge, but both are winnable.

Beating Pitt by 18 at the half. This is a must win game as Pitt probably will not be in the field nor a bubble team and this is on a neutral court. A loss here would have been a lot more hurtful than a win is helpful. However, it is a good sign that it is looking pretty easy.

I noticed from the gamecast that both Hooks and Johnson fouled out very early. I’m not sure either one played in the fourth quarter.

I feel like this could be a blessing in disguise. John Wooden believed in the 7 man rotation for the sake of chemistry and I understand that. We lacked depth last year and I feel like it should be much, much better this year. It seemed like literally every game we lost last year was directly attributable to foul trouble. It seems to me that in games where we are a heavy favorite, but not to the extent that the whole second half should be garbage time, it would be nice to see some of Guice, Garnett, and Bazelak each in turn getting in two or three minutes of playing time with the starters. It seems like that this would be helpful when foul trouble rears its head against Butler, TCU, Texas, or most of the teams in the MAC.

60-55 loss to Butler today. No sugar coating...this one is bad. Butler isn't all that great, including a loss to Ball State. This will be an ugly stain on the March resume. Need to do really well in the last 4 OOC to be set up for any chance at an at-large.

30 points from Burke and 25 from the rest of the entire team. Johnson & Hooks never got going, 4-20 from the field. Butler turns it over a whopping 25 times...still wins.

JuST watched state beat Louisville. Number 1 8-0 UL. Hate to see State win but it makes the Bobcats win look better.
