ACC coaches are pitching a 357 team tournament. All teams in. If nothing else, it would be a blast to watch it play out. Wow, it could get crazy.

The committee is tasked with determining if that 19-13 ACC team or that 19-12 SEC team or that 25-7 MAC team or that 29-3 America East team gets the last slot. in most years this would look like the ACC team has an advantage as long as the relative conference strengths are what they are in a normal year and the OOC schedules are about what we expect them to be. But some years the SEC might have proven itself to be better than the ACC. If the ACC expects to get more teams in the tournament than anybody else then really it is the ACC's job to prove that it is better than the other leagues by beating up on then in their OOC schedule.

Yeah, I know, blah. blah, blah, eye test, blah, blah. But it is much better to actually know these things based on on court wins and losses than by speculation. The last two season Ohio's football team passed the eye test better than all the other MAC teams but what did that earn them. To me if the ACC coaches don't want to fool with OOC games this year then where does that leave the committee in trying to justify letting most of the ACC teams into the tournament.

I mean if they do an old school Indiana HS tournament then I'm in. Put Duke and UNC in the same sectional draw and that would be a pipe dream. Combine that with putting those schools at sites in the middle of each of their fanbases, would be an absolute party I feel like. But that's just me.

And at each level - sectional, district, regional, etc - play a consolation game before the 1 v. 2 game. More games the better, no?

It'd be very cool if they treated it like the FA Cup in English football.

For those unaware, in addition to the Premier League, there are 10 other levels of professional soccer in England. They range from the Premier League which is the richest league in the world, to semi-pro leagues where guys may make $50 a week and have a full-time job.

The FA Cup has a random draw for each round -- that means a semi-pro team may draw Liverpool in round one, or another semi-pro team. Winners advance, and then there's a brand new draw, rather than a set bracket.

It'd be very cool to do that round by round until there are 68 teams left, and then seed and bracket the tournament as usual.

Exactly why they want to do it. Coaches have had to take pay cuts because of virus-related revenue losses, so this is one way to recoup that.

It's a nice pipe dream but don't expect it to happen. The NCAA has been considering FEWER teams in the dance so they can have more manageable bubbles.

I thought those were "voluntary" pay cuts?

You don't believe everything you see in the newspapers or on the internet, do you? ;-)
