Another distract thread from what's happening out there, would be curious for the board's take on best teams in their lifetime not to win a NCAA Title. Would love to have a weekly topic on basketball and if anyone has any interest in other topics, start em up:

At least in my lifetime, some of the best in no particular order:

-2003 Kansas Jayhawks (got beat in the finals by Carmelo and Cuse)
-2005 Arizona Wildcats (got beat in the Elite 8 by Illinois when they were up 9 going into the last minute)
-2010 Kentucky Wildcats (best collection of talent I've seen assembled, got beat in the Elite 8 by WVU)
-2011/2012 Ohio State Buckeyes (lost to Kentucky Sweet 16, then lost to Kansas in Final Four)
-2013 Indiana Hoosiers (great group of players, proceeded to get 2-3'd out of the tournament by Cuse)

I don't know if they were the best team to not win a championship but I can't think of another team that got more attention and hype than the "Phi Slama Jama" outfit (aka the University of Houston Cougars) of the early 80s; perhaps especially leading up to the championship game against NC State. The Wolfpack pulled the upset and of course all have seen Jimmy V's antics when the game ended.

2015 Kentucky. The platoon team that was undefeated until Wisconsin got them in the Final 4.

100%^^^^^

And that is all on Guy Lewis. Horrible coaching against NC State cost that team a title.

My first thoughts (I wasn't around dating back to some mentioned here) are the John Wall/Demarcus Cousins UK team, UNLV with Johnson/Augmon/Anthony when they lost to Duke, and the Fab 5 at Michigan.

2006-2007 Ohio State Buckeyes -

It was obviously a sign of things to come in his career but a lot of people forget that Oden basically played that entire season with his left hand. A lot of first round picks & Conley might be one of the most underrated(but most well paid!) PG's in the history of the NBA.

That Kenyon Martin team was tough as nails for sure. if he doesn't blow his knee out, they make the run and who knows, maybe Huggy is still at UC

2015 Wisconsin - I thought they got robbed in the second half

My Time-Machine special would be 1969 Purdue - with a three-point line Rick Mount might have made the difference for the Boilers. However it should be noted that Mount had a terrible game vs UCLA.

Here's a story on the subject written by a former Bobcat:
https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-basketball/list/ncaa...

He puts 1990-91 UNLV at #1. Kentucky 2014-15 is #2, followed by 84-85 Georgetown.

74-75 Indiana. Could have been undefeated two years in a row had Scott May been healthy. I attended the IU/Kentucky game and it could have gone either way even with May being hurt. He played 7 minutes in that game with a broken arm but obviously was ineffective.

Still love Bobby Knight's quote after the 76 title....."Should've been two," in reference to that.

I was going to mention that team as well. I was able to be in the building for a game or two that season, and it was nothing short of electric almost every time. That group was soooooo gooooodddd.

Ugh. That was a bitter pill to swallow.

I was a senior in high school and remember clear as day when it happened in the CUSA tournament. They ended up falling to a 2 seed

Team tried to push on without him but got upset in the second round by I believe Tulsa.
