I maintain that voters favor upper classmen every year in the voting. If it is close, they go with the guy on his way out and figure the other guy will get it next year. Preston should be 1st team, without a doubt. He was:
1st in Minutes
1st in Assists
1st in A/TO ratio
4th in FG pct
5th in 3 pt pct (didn't realize that did you?)
7th in scoring
8th in steals
13th in rebounds (1st among guards)
18th in FT pct
If you run the numbers for conference games only, most these rankings actually improve. Had he scored 1-2 more point per season, they would've voted for him...as history has proven their ballot starts with the scoring leaders. He is essentially being punished for choosing to dish it to get a better shot for the team rather than chuck up more shots to get more points.
He is the most relied upon player in the MAC, and the most complete player in the MAC. Whatever.
Wholeheartedly agree with this. The upperclassmen bias is so predictable and consistent that no fan base can even take it personally. But it makes these awards a joke, especially POY in years without a clearly dominant player when some schmuck senior wins (see: Kool, David).
