Got this a bit ago:

Bobcat Fans,

As announced earlier today, the Mid-American Conference has limited in-venue attendance for men’s and women’s basketball to family and guests of our student-athletes and coaches until further notice. While disappointed that we cannot host you at the moment, please know we are working diligently to craft plans that include general public attendance, in a smart and safe manner, so we are ready if the situation allows.

MAC Announces Basketball Attendance Policy

Story Links
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference has announced its attendance policy for the upcoming 2020-21 men’s and women’s basketball season.

General public will not be permitted until further notice. A maximum of four tickets per student-athlete will be available for family members. The participation of the Pep Band, Dance, Cheer and Spirit Squads at basketball games will be guided by Conference protocols at institutional discretion.

The Mid-American Conference will continue to evaluate spectator options throughout the season. All basketball policies are subject to compliance with Conference approved game operations protocols and must also adhere to institutional, national, state and local health mandates and guidelines which may be more restrictive.

Not surprised but still disappointing.

I bet Eastern Michigan loves this. Just business as usual for them.

Not surprising at all.

At this point, were I betting man, I'd probably bet against a full season being played at all, let alone fans attending. Given the amount of holiday travel we'll see in November/December, I think we're about to see a spike on top of a spike.

On facebook this morning, a friend is complaining that paper menus are being discontinued in West Virginia (health dept. directive) since the virus can be hanging out on the menus and then picked up by your hands when you touch the menu. Plastic laminated ones that can be wiped down are allowed. The virus ends up on almost every surface in an enclosed space through air movement and shows how hand washing or sanitizing helps break the chain of transmission. Listening to the Cleveland Clinic's guy on DeWine's presser two days ago was scary in his prediction of cases in the next three months.

New Jersey has required paper menus since outdoor dining was allowed.

But the menus are only allowed for a single use.

Most places will tear then in half in front of you so you know they aren't reused.

In New York, single use paper menus are allowed, but most restaurants have opted for online, QR code based menus.

Some of the restaurants in the area where I live tried that.

They quickly found out that a number of people, especially seniors, don't have Smart Phones.

So they pivoted and made sure sure they also have paper menus available.

New Jersey also now allows laminated menus.
But if you use them, a customer can still request a paper one.

Yes came back from Wheeling, W.Va., and paper, one-use, menus were being used in all the eateries we visited. West Virginia Independence Hall took your temperature before you were admitted, had you fill out a health form, and then strictly enforced a mask rule with social distancing.

Edit: If you are interested in finding out more about West Virginia Independence Hall, look at the next post.

With no fans and the upside of this year's team, here's hoping all games are broadcast on some format or another.

Agreed. It’s a shame this team doesn’t get to experience the Convo at full blast, but I hope fans at least have a reliable stream. We’ve been better than most schools at this in past years, so there is reason to be optimistic

Not sure I agree, at least when it comes to ESPN+/3. In the past we are the only MAC school not to show games during break. I suspect that might be more common this year with covid protocols. Would be nice if Marty B. could chime in with any inside info.

I may be wrong, but I recall us being the first MAC school to reliably stream games. In recent years, I’ve definitely been frustrated that we haven’t had games over breaks... not sure how that compares to other MAC schools...

On this subject, I’ve seen multiple Ohio High Schools that have streamed their entire high school football seasons in pretty great quality for FREE this year so if college basketball fails it’s a pretty obvious money grab.

I suggested: previously on the football thread that during the break where there are no students to man the cameras that the university hire an outside contractor to do this. Seems it would be good customer service in this day of Covid and since NO fans are allowed it would provide the fans access to enjoy watching the games. I know dollars are tight but I can’t believe this expenditure would be cost prohibitive.

I noticed UT played in front of no fans in its home game last night v. Cleveland St. except for 3 guys dressed in blue coveralls and faces painted gold (have been a staple at UT home games for decades).
