Wasn’t the writing on the wall for TK? Boals wants a PG, a Big Man and versatile wings to fit his template of play. TK’s ball distribution is not one of his strengths, he has very, very limited outside shooting skills and is a liability at the foul line. His true strength is creating around the basket with his athleticism. His desire to move on opens a spot for Boals to fill and is probably the best for all concerned.

Boals May have to tear the whole house to the ground and build it with a new foundation. Looks like short term pain for the potential of long term gain to me. I think it’s for the best to get everyone off the bus as quickly as possible who doesn’t fit the Boals plan. Yea next year could be really ugly. Last year as well as this one weren’t exactly Rembrandt ‘s.

Go Bobcats!

There will be 20 grad transfers and 50 JUCO players available by next week better than the two who are leaving. Take note of the year Larry Austin had at CMU after doing nothing at Xavier and Vandy.

I agree with you about TK, but not Carter. Hes better than you're giving him credit for. Oats said the best two inside players in the MAC were Perkins and Carter.

TK didnt improve his outside shooting enough to be an effective guard in the MAC. Add to that an unwillingness to respond consistently to coaching, and I dont see this as a major loss.

There are JUCO post players who could take Carter to school straight up.
Not to even speculate what they would do to the kid from Charlotte.

Look at where some of the top 30 from this list are headed...

I agree we should be looking at those lists and maybe make some offers, but we also have to remember that while we may not be Ivy League, we do have more stringent academic standards than some other MAC schools. It's not just a matter of finding a kid who will be good on the court in Boals' system, they also have to be satisfactory off the court. Buffalo, probably the strongest academic school in the MAC, has been able to pull it off...can Ohio? Part of this is institutional support....will the President and Deans give the coaches leeway to recruit the players we need to be competitive in the MAC?

Speaking purely about basketball I'll support 100% those who stay and won't give another thought to those who don't. We were absolutely horrible this season. If someone chooses to leave I hope they do it quickly so the new coaching staff can move on.

I agree Jeff. Really don't want to lose Carter. Think he can fit into Boal's style. TK not so much. Tk didn't show me any improvement this year.
As for recruitment, Boal's has know this job "may" be open for 2 years. "Probably" be open for a year. He wanted the job when Saul landed it and really wanted this time. No doubt in my mind he has for the last year keep a book on who stays and who is shown the door . Also who to recruit.
Bottom line. I suspect Boal's is WAY ahead of a coach that we could of hired that would have required a Google to see who he was.

But there is a guy on there who is 6-11 that is a verbal to UALR which is a lower level mid than the MAC. And he hit 44% from three in his JUCO conference last season. And was on a team that made it to the JUCO national championship tournament. Verbals are not binding.

Willing to bet someone is in Carter’s ear and he’s showing loyalty to Saul, but he’s a 2 for 1 guy transferring would be silly, and his ability to go up in level would be questionable. He would flourish under Boals and the athleticism that will be brought in when Boals gets a full year to recruit. His staff is all Ohio guys with great relationships with OHIO coaches. Kirk, well, “we wish you the best in your future endeavors”.

Boals better be hitting the recruiting trail hard, or we'll have a team of walk-ons next year. Not surprised by this one, and suspect it won't be the last.
This moves worries you? Really?

He seems like a great kid and he obviously has a ton of potential, but c'mon.

I hope he fares better at his next stop.
Agreed, I think the locker room and the product on the floor will be a bit more enjoyable. Blaming Saul for "regression" ? I think the only way he gets better is to get to a place where a Coach will put him on a short leash and demand his attention. The bench is your friend.
Not sure that’s what the young man wants.

For a bad team, like we were, TK was useful. We had few options and he was one of them.
However for a new coach, trying to build a winner— I doubt a PG, or tiny SG who can’t shoot, doesn’t pass, doesn’t make others around them better, is turnover prone, and can’t shoot free throws is a foundational piece for this team, or any team. He’s doing JB a favor. This is the definition of addition by subtraction.
As for a James, he looked decent in his limited minutes, but if you can’t get minutes for a bottom tier team with the 2 guys ahead of you out for the year, then maybe that’s what SP thought about that recruiting selection? And finally, if Carter would rather sit 2 of his first 4 years in college, then he’s telling you he’s not a foundational piece to a winning team either and must have enjoyed the losing? Baffles me how you can be the highest paid staff member of large historically successful organization, you don’t even make it to Cleveland two years straight and the future not looking much brighter and you’re mad that the boss isn’t willing to throw a couple more million bucks at the problem. Hope these guys aren’t business majors cause that isn’t how it works in real life guys. I’ve always thought this was a scrape and rebuild vs a remodel and I’m looking like that assumption may be accurate.

I’m not sure about the bio, but I also thought he might transfer. I scrolled through his twitter and he has multiple retweets that seem to endorse the Boals hire. Pair that with his wording of his highlight video and I think he will stay. Maybe that’s wishful thinking.
