What gives? He certainly has struggled in his limited minutes and now it looks like he’s completely out of the rotation. We certainly need depth in the post. Not good to bring a JUCO guy into the program who isn’t going to contribute, but obviously Boals doesn’t feel like he’s ready.

Boals has certainly shortened the teams rotation quite a bit.
Our next game is expected to be an easy win. If it turns out that way and the usual bench time comes into play and we still don't see some of these guys play then they are more than in the dog house.

Foster and Towns need in this convo also. White is definitely up for a redshirt but perhaps if Foster and Towns are not ready they can be redshirted. Miguel is the unknown. Juco guy who at least can go in and wreck the middle for 3 mins. Towns's length would have been nice on perimeter.

Just a question, is basketball like football this year. Year does not count and continue on to next year?

Correct, this year does not count towards eligibility. Any seniors who return can take the team over the scholarship limit for next year only. So if we had 13 committed scholarships already, and Wilson comes back, we could have 14 just for next year. At least that’s how I understand it.

That is my understanding as well. Of course if he does come back, it's probably going to result in someone else departing for other/greener pastures for playing time. This next recruiting period and summer offseason is going to be mighty interesting!

I know this has been discussed in multiple threads...but are we 100% sure that if Wilson wants another year...he'll get it? And you are right....interesting decisions indeed for Boals moving forward if this did happen.

I'm not 100% sure on anything these days. ;)

I would assume that if Wilson wants another year, they would bring him back, right? He's the best post player at Ohio, in my opinion, since Campbell.

As a follow-up, does the year not counting only apply to Seniors? Or could someone like true sophomore Ben Roderick play 3 more seasons after this?

I have to imagine there will be some career Program/NCAA records falling.

Correct. Miami QB D'eriq King took his grad transfer year and jumped from Houston to Miami, and will now get a 6th year of eligibility since he decided to come back again. Everyone is fair game.

We could theoretically see a lot of this.

This will certainly help teams like us and hurt us. I would LOVE DW3 to return. I know we have the Clayton kid coming in from Philo as an early enrollee for next year which was Dwight's scholly. If we could keep Dwight and keep our other guys I can't see anyone touching us in the MAC. Of course that is a big "if."

Watching him in limited time tonight, I can see why he's not getting many minutes. His finishing in the post hasn't been great.

Agree....clearly he hasn't progressed in practice. Disappointing that he just looks like he's not ready for D-One hoops. I have great concerns moving forward. This could be a giant swing and miss for Boals. Granger tentative and confused....not his best effort either. Massive depth issues behind Wilson.

But his ability to pick up 3 fouls in just under 2 minutes is a huge plus right? If we ever need a guy to come in and foul immediately Rifen is THE MAN! I hope he realizes this isn't rugby!

Basing this on what, Jeff?

He hasn't shown me anything to think he's going to be fine. Not saying that he's shown me anything to think he's not.

If you do not D up or at least have some defining offensive game you are not playing. Rifen and Towns both looked lost on both ends. Granger makes some mistakes but watch how active he is on the glass.

Based on what I have seen so far our bench is weak.
I can definitely see 1 or 2 of these players leaving at year end.

I'm usually on the "too soon to tell" camp with new guys like this. In these odd times, with practice being a little different (I think so, right), I'm definitely more patient with their development. Plus, there's always going to be a "swing and miss" guy. It's about making sure there aren't many of them.

It's a preliminary thought based on a small sample size. So of course I could be wrong. But I like what I see from him so far. His hustle and what I've seen of him setting screens, etc. He's not an option to take shots now, but that doesn't mean he can't.

I also like his recruiting profile. He was regarded well in the state of Georgia in HS and AAU. That show he has D1 potential to be good on this level.
