Sure would have loved to have seen this game. Sears with 9 assists. Looking at the box score, it's only the 8th game and and it looks like we have a seven man rotation.

BG with 29 point advantage at the stripe...in our house.

Vander Plas 2H line: 5 fouls, 2 points
Two tough games to start MAC and learned a lot. Will be fine by March.
Exactly. No one wants to play Ohio in the MAC Tournament. Especially BG. They can't win the MAC Tournament no matter who they play anyway.
I've figured it out. You're Andy Katz. You wrote the "Ohio Has It" article didn't you? No wait, you wrote the Sports Illustrated article about Frank and the "Next Boise."
He's the Henry Bennett of Bobcat fans. That's an Andy Griffith Show reference...

Relax! The Bobcats have played some good schools the past few games and didn't win. Marshall, Akron and BG are slightly better than Chicago State, Purdue Northwest (a D-2 school) or NC A&T. Ohio will start winning again soon.

I hope this is sarcasm.

If only we had more D2 schools on the ol' COVID roulette wheel schedule. Then...THEN we'd be winning. Big time. Big time.

P.S. can this team even spell defense?

In b4 someone says "but we went on a 40-0 run against CSU!"

My comments are based on the stat sheet since the game was not on TV and viewable.
The difference today between these 2 teams came down to coaching.

Boals was simply out coached today.

When BG's best 2 scores were not hitting their shots in the 1st half, he changed the strategy and called for driving to the hoop. The team responded and with their 78% FT entering the game they won the game at the line. Smart move.
On our side we continue to show that we are not mentally tough. We just don't have the drive to increase our intensity and energy level.
I doubt that the end result would have been any different if Preston was available.
I want to believe that since we are now into a more normal schedule of games we will be able to iron out those areas where the teams needs to improve.

GO BOBCATS
What happened was that we hit 8 of 17 from three in the first half but only 4 of 16 in the second. Couldn't score from outside so we had to go inside. Plus BG hit an ungodly 94% (36 of 38) from the FT line. If they only hit their normal 78% they lose about seven points and it's a whole different ballgame.

The best webcast I think I ever saw was an mailto:mailto:mailto:OHIO@BSU football game about ten years ago. All they had was about two cameras and stadium sound. The only voice you heard, other than fan noise, was the PA announcer. Made you feel like you were really at the game, and I didn’t miss the announcers one bit. How hard would it be to do something like that? And, those so inclined, could tune in Russell and Co. on the radio.
I officially take back this comment. I'm glad that no one got to see this game other than the participants and a few special friends. It was bad enough listening to it on the radio. To have had to witness it would have been as painful as watching a one-on-one tilt between SBH and Al Swank for greater Akron bragging rights. My new position is that we should not allow any of our future MAC games on any kind of video platform -- ESPN, ESPN-U, ESPN+, CBSSN, Periscope, WOUB-TV. What we need most is a total video blackout and then fast-forward to November 2012 and start all over again.

Hey, I might be overreacting, but what better place to overreact? That's what we do here. It's what we are all about, to paraphrase one of our storied coaches in another sport.

Mental toughness, rebounding and defense were missing in this game. Thank god Kansas wasn't on our schedule.

Where were Miguel and Towns? Towns went from starting to DNPs the last few games and Miguel has been hot and cold. It was nice to hear Granger playing.

If you want to look at anything, look at the bench production.

6 points
6 fouls
4 rebounds
2-10 FG

Gotta get more from them, which we would normally had JP been in the lineup.

This is a good question. Seems strange to think they went from a lot of minutes to DNP. Then again, these are strange times and we don't know all the details. Perhaps contact tracing kept them out to be on the safe side?

Man I love comments like this. I didn't watch the game, BUT...
Agreed, but I'm interested in going a little further. With OUr point guard, and arguably the best player on the team out for this game, this is the analysis of the game?

Seeing a stat sheet and not watching any of the game allows one to derive that "we are not mentally tough", and "we just don't have the drive..." and that "doubt the end result would have been any different if Preston was available"??

I would enjoy some enlightenment on how a box score and game story can give such deep insight into effort, drive, and mental toughness.

The outcome of this game does not sound like a lack of mental toughness. Boals' in postgame was clearly pleased with the effort. No, we didn't shoot great from 2, but neither did BG, nor did they shoot great from 3. Our turnovers were down, we didn't get crushed on the boards. This was simply two factors: we're missing the only NBA prospect this league has and we could not defend without fouling. BG made us pay at the line. I cannot remember ever seeing a free throw performance like that in a college basketball game.

It's clear also that the main rotation is still up in the air. With Granger's early minutes yesterday, every scholarship player has had some run in non-garbage minutes. Towns goes from starting to 0 minutes. Clearly Granger is getting something done that Miguel and Foster are not.

Boals no answer post game interview about what JP's injury is.....
Do you mean he was asked a question about it and didn't answer or that it just wasn't brought up? Either way, it seems a little concerning that he didn't mention it in the injury report before the game and didn't talk about it after the game either.
Russ specifically asked him what the nature of the injury was and Boals did not answer, went straight to discussing different topic - so he has political skills as well.... :)

Told you about BG. They're pretenders. Preston isn't even playing and they've been down by double digits most of the half. They're weak, so overrated.
How about that? I did not get to see or hear the game but going back through the thread is enlightening.

How in the world did they shoot so many Free Throws? Box score is interesting. Sears looks like he did all right. 9 assists with 2 turnovers is a good ratio and looks like our long line of PG's, Bean notwithstanding, but should work out. Must have had his hands full with guards as he fouled out. BenVP with an 0 for from 2? Good to see Roderick back with a 40 perent showing. Just what you expect from your shooter. I watched BG/Buffalo earlier in the year so this was not unexpected. Hope we put a damper on their season next time we meet.

Other than enjoying watching Sears/McDay/Roderick do their thing, this is probably the most interesting thing to me right now. The fact that McMurray suddenly got minutes when Miguel and Towns did not surprised me. I'm sure there's a good reason for it, but I'm curious to know why.
