I know it's been asked in a bunch of different threads, but thought it would make sense to make a separate thread with updates here.

Thanks

I think I read somewhere about trying to play everyone at least once which leaves Eastern which according to their website is open next Tuesday the 23rd as are we.

We also have this Saturday open and were supposed to play at BG before it was rescheduled and then postponed. If we don't hear in the next day or two it's probably not going to happen. We were also originally scheduled to play at BG on March 5 before the musical chairs started.

BTW, tomorrow nights Buffalo-EMU game has been postponed because of continuing issues at EMU.

It will be interesting to see who is actually available for the first game back. Arkley's last blog said

Quote:expand_more
When/if Ohio does resume the season, it likely won’t be with a complete roster, Boals cautioned.

Assuming they're cleared to play by the 20th...

2/20 - WMU is also open on the 20th, and we have a make up in K-zoo to schedule.

2/23 - There are currently no games on the MAC web site for 2/23, so that leaves a lot of options there.

3/5 - With BG the only other team currently open on 3/5, it would make sense to put that game there.

I'd expect a game against someone on the 25th too.

As for other makeups, I count 27 currently postponed and not yet scheduled to be made up, and 7 of those between teams who haven't played a game yet this year.

Postponed Games
Akron (2) - @ Ohio, Buffalo
Ball St. (4) - @ CMU, @ EMU, Kent, WMU
Bowling Green (3) - @ EMU, NIU, Ohio
Buffalo (5) - @ Akron, @ CMU, CMU, @ EMU, @ NIU
Central Michigan (6) - BSU, @ UB, UB, Miami, @ NIU, @ Ohio
Eastern Michigan (8) - BSU, BG, UB, Kent, @ Miami, @ NIU, @ Ohio, WMU
Kent St. (2) - @ BSU, @ EMU
Miami (4) - @ CMU, EMU, Ohio, @ Western
Northern Illinois (7) - BG, UB, CMU, EMU, Ohio, Toledo, @ WMU
Ohio (7) - Akron, @ BG, CMU, EMU, @ Miami, @ NIU, @ WMU
Toledo (1) - @ NIU
Western Michigan (5) - @ BSU, @ EMU, Miami, NIU, Ohio

Teams That Haven't Played Once
Bowling Green - Eastern Michigan
Buffalo - CMU (2 games postponed)
Buffalo - Northern Illinois
Central Michigan - Miami
Kent St. - Ball St.
Ohio - Eastern Michigan

The real question is: how rusty will we be when we play again? How rusty is Rife? Is Foster returning?

Looks like this Saturday is not happening. But 2 home games scheduled for next week (Tue Akron & Thu EMU) which was previously vacant.

This likely means games at Western, at NIU, at Miami, and home vs Central are total scratches unless there will be a back to back somewhere. With no first round at campus sites, there is a gap from March 5 to the quarterfinals on March 11 where I suppose they could squeeze in one game on the Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday.

I think that last scenario should only happen if it would affect tournament seeding for any of the teams involved, us included. But then again, there still apparently hasn't been a specification of how/if missed games affect tournament seeding.

So the remaining schedule is:

Tues 2/23 - Akron
Thu 2/25 - Eastern Michigan
Sat 2/27 - Buffalo
Tues 3/2 - @ Kent St.
Fri 3/5 - @ Bowling Green

Five games in 11 days (3 of those in 5 days) with a possibly limited roster should be.... interesting.

Our 4 cancelled games against all bottom 5 caliber teams. But 3 road games vs 1 home game (but in a year where home court isn't as impactful). We may finish up the season a ho hum 9-7 or so but could've easily been 13-7 with a full schedule.

At least the first three are home games so recuperation time isn't eaten up by travel. And Buffalo will also be playing its third game in five days, including its second on the road -- they're at NIU Tuesday and have CMU at home Thursday afternoon. We need to build up a big early lead vs EMU to give whatever bench we have some PT and our starters some rest.

Looks like like we will have 5 days to practice before the Akron game. That's a good thing.

If all the remaining scheduled games are played, Akron, BG, Kent and Toledo each will have played 19 MAC games, BSU and Fiami 18 each, Buffalo and WMU 17 each, CMU and Ohio 16 each, EMU and NIU 14 each. That comes out to 103 games (206/2). There were 120 games originally scheduled, so at least 17 MAC games (14.17%) will be lost to covid this season.

I asked my question on Arkley's blog and he said the following - "To my knowledge, there is no minimum games requirement needed to reach to qualify for the MAC Tournament. Seeding for the tournament WILL be done according to win percentage as there could be quite a variety of game totals for all teams involved."

Am I the only one upset that Bobcat fans are without watching their basketball team in the middle of winter for 3 weeks and then when they finally do play it is a 2 p.m. game on a weekday? The pandemic that keeps on giving!!

Take your students on a virtual field trip to the Convo.

Lessons in geography (map to get there), PE, math (keeping score), public speaking (listening to and objectively evaluating the announcers), nutrition (healthy snacks at halftime), art (graphics evaluation as well as uniforms), and economics (the effectiveness of the commercials) could all be taught.

Thanks, Alan and BTC.

Alan, can you also come up with lesson plans for Thursday as well as that is a 1 p.m. start in the Convo.

In all seriousness, what's the thinking on early afternoon starts on weekdays?

The monster comes out at night, obviously. I've been saying this for months. Who said we should only play morning games? Well I guess early afternoon is close enough. Gotta get the buses home before the monster hunts.

Seriously though, this is dumb. Guess they figure since nobody can attend in person then why not maximize the pain by extending it to those who want to tune in via TV/radio too, so they can't watch or listen either.

Not sure why the Akron game is a 2:00 start but the reason for EMU at 1:00 is that the volleyball team has the Convo at 6:30 Thursday for a match vs Toledo.

I have lesson plans for work programs for the Masters, Opening day and the state high school championships. Got to think outside the box.
