This is our "every 4 games stinker." We will now win 2 games in a row. Kent cares more it is obvious.
We just didn’t want it that bad. They just wanted to get to Swanky’s.

Another double digit loss to a Mac contender.

Stat of the game: 2nd chance pts. They had 18 to our 5. With a 10-pt margin of victory, that made all the difference. Kent got them because they pulled down 14 offensive rebounds to our five. In fact, they had just two fewer offensive rebounds than we had DEFENSIVE rebounds.

And 50 points in the paint. On another note, when did O boards and turn become the go to announcing terms for offensive boards and turnovers?

And "dime" and "Lundo"?

And when your not sure if the foul was on Roderick or Vander Plas, it doesn't help to inform the ESPN+ viewers that it was on "Ben".

Can you blame them? We are the best 3-4 team in the MAC

I see we are on the same page. After the OU game I watched the tailend of the Akron game including the overtime. Totally different experience - no cliches and not cuteness.

I have complete faith in Boals. 2nd year in and I stand behind him. We do have some recruiting work to do for sure. If you look at some of the activity against the likes of BG, Akron, Kent and Toledo, we don't have the horses. Kant seems to be content being Transfer U. It is hard to keep track of but all three of Akron's top point scorers yesterday were transfers (Jackson (34), Trimble (19) and Dailey (14) - including game winning three).

Littleson (UT) had 21 yesterday and is a key scorer for UT. He transferred from Duquesne.

Without Wilson, we would be in more trouble. How do we fix it? Not sure but transfers and Grad transfers seem to work for some. I'm not a fan but maybe that is modern day college ball. Don't like the cafeteria food? Transer. Didn't get your way? Transfer. Have a crappy campus a recruit doesn't want to be on for four years? Take some transfers.

That is my rant. I'm frustrated like some simply because had higher hopes. Blocking out, making FT's and playing D are not always clicking for us in the same game.

These experts only use that after we win a game. After we lose we are just horrible and don’t care. Why some people are not making Boals salary coaching DI college basketball is beyond me.

Ohio will win Tuesday in DeKalb and all will be right in the world (Ohio is the team no one wants to meet in Cleveland).

Some teams may not have to worry about playing us in the MAC tourney as we may not make the MAC tourney. And the way we have been manhandled by Akron, Toledo, BG and now Kent, I would think some teams would salivate at playing us. I don’t exactly see us striking fear in anyone.

Exactly. Right now radio on the local level isn't translating to a national TV audience. And what is a repack? Is that when the guy who sets the pins has to do it again because of a bad set in the 7th frame?

I don't agree with these criticisms. I have no problem with the lingo and delivery. I think it fits well with the radio network and ESPN3 and Plus. Russ and Rob both are professionals. I watch a lot of E3 and Plus, and we are definitely blessed with high end announcers.

Are posters on a basketball forum not familiar with the term "dime"? I can't see that as possible. "Rerack" is odd but obvious and the others are just abbreviations and hardly something Russ came up with. Should "boards" be only referred to as rebounds as well? Come on.

Russ is outstanding at his job, this is a silly sidebar.

The shot clock worked, so there had to be something to complain about.

No one was saying Russ doesn't do a good job it's just that radio announcers who tend to be university employees bring a certain home team familiarity to the broadcast whereas TV announcers broadcast to a wider audience hence the familiarity, inside comments and jokes, and custsieness aren't journalistically appropriate. Oh, and it wasn't Russ who was the king of cliches on the ESPN+ broadcast.

As for the dime, I wasn't so I had to look it up. Interesting thoughts on the origin of the term.

I know what dime means. I just think Rob tries too hard to be cool with "dime", "turn", "Lundo". Sorry Jeff, just not a fan of Rob. At least the two of them aren't telling us what they're wearing any more.

Also beginning to think they aren't as athletic as we thought they were. Everything just seems clunky on the offensive end unless JP does his thing, BVP is hot or Sears is getting to the rim. And I didn't count but man do they shoot way too many quick trigger threes early in the shot clock.
I’ve reluctantly arrived at this same conclusion. We need to recruit some Turner or Pippen type players for next year.

What's the problem with that? Actually, any of it? Part of Rob's "charm" is the attempt at being cool, even if he isn't. Dimes, and turns are both normal hoops lingo, aren't they?

For me, I liked hearing about what they're wearing or other goofy things. It's less mechanical and more personal/conversational to me. One of the best things about the best of the best radio announcers out there is the ability to fill the airwaves with something when the game is stopped, or, isn't entertaining at all.

WOW.

I listened to Akron, BG, Miami, and CMU feeds this week. I really like our guys. CMU was terrible.....calling out names but no teams..."muhammad to ...." At least the BG guy says something like "Turner brings the ball up for BG moving left to right" to give perspective.

Our guys are pretty good. Maybe I spend too much time in the gym or parks because "dropping dimes" and "dude is wet" is fairly understandable slang bandied about by the guys playing the game.

Watching games on TV I hear "throwing down", "rejects it with a spike" , "breaking ankles" and other broadcaster cliches (note I did not include the dorky "score the ball") so in the big scheme of things I think our guys are pretty tame compared to SEC, CUSA, ASun, most ESPN and now the CBS broadcasters.

Basketball has a lingo as does baseball "whiffs" "fans" "high and tight" given by broadcasters. Basketball comes more from the players it seems.

If you are put off by the use of the slang of the game I find that curious. I never took it as our guys trying to be cool....they are enlightened enough to understand the current jargon used in player circles and by their knowledge we are smarter fans. IMHO I like it.

I will say I found the traditional calls on the Miami broadcast, the Zips yelping, CMUs lack of detail all inferior. I do like David Eha at Balls as he is analytic and informative, not so sure about my friend Jeff weller and I sure miss Morrie Mannies a ton. TuneIn is on most nights with hoops here and I rarely get in the car without scanning local AM and FM looking for a HS game in addition to the TuneIn college feeds. We got a pretty good thing and I constantly say...the day Russ gets his break we are going to miss him.

On another note. We have some pretty spectacular OHIO grads in spots round the country. Brian Boesh is killing it up at Michigone
