Looking at the leaders in stats today on ESPN, I saw that Teyvion Kirk (playing for UIC) is currently 5th in the country with 8.8 Assists per game.

He is just ahead of Jason Preston, who is now at 7th, with 8.4 APG

He's definitely taken a step forward in the playmaking department but he also is among the nations leaders in turnovers at 4.3 (JP 1.8) and is shooting under 30% from the field. He did have probably his best game in college against Valpo earlier this year with 14 pts on 4-9 shooting, 8 rebounds and 14 assists and 1 turnover. That's a serious game. His three other games have all come against MAC opponents (NIU, CMU, BSU) and he's averaged 7.0 assist and 5.3 to while shooting 25% in those games. Would have been interesting to see what he be like if Boals had been our coach when he was a freshman.

Saw some of the UIC game at Ball St. last weekend. Pitted Kirk v. KJ Walton, two athletic guards with the ugliest shots in college ball. Both do a lot of good things to help their teams but there is a reason they're left wide open on the perimeter.
