And if so, is it permanent or just for this year? I have not been a fan of 2 divisions for basketball for some time now.

I think it's just for this year because of the expanded conference schedule, but I'd also like to see it made permanent. The MAC is the only major/mid-major conference still using divisions. Divisions served a purpose when the divisional champs were automatically the 1 and 2 seeds in the tourney, but that went away years ago, so there's really no need for them anymore.

The only thing divisions has an effect on now is scheduling.
