What gives? He certainly has struggled in his limited minutes and now it looks like he’s completely out of the rotation. We certainly need depth in the post. Not good to bring a JUCO guy into the program who isn’t going to contribute, but obviously Boals doesn’t feel like he’s ready.
Watching him in limited time tonight, I can see why he's not getting many minutes. His finishing in the post hasn't been great.
Agree....clearly he hasn't progressed in practice. Disappointing that he just looks like he's not ready for D-One hoops. I have great concerns moving forward. This could be a giant swing and miss for Boals. Granger tentative and confused....not his best effort either. Massive depth issues behind Wilson.
The struggle is real and continues #toledo

And to be fair…it’s not just Rifen. Towns and Granger are right there as well. The contributions from the newcomers just aren’t there...minus Sears and Wilson.

Has the look of some stretches in recruiting if not outright swing and misses. Some of these guys are going to have to make massive improvement to be contributors even next year. Looking like we have 7 guys you can put on the floor( Wilson,Preston, BVP, McDay, Roderick,Sears&Brown). No one appears capable at this point of spelling Wilson for even a few minutes with any effectiveness.

I thought Foster looked decent early in his career. What happened? He can't beat out these other guys?

I don't really worry that much about the Freshman class. Those guys will improve significantly. Not saying they all will be starters but just cautioning not to panic on their futures yet. Look at Miles Brown for an example of a guy that was just flat not ready last year but has gained a lot of confidence this year. The sophomore class had their previous season cut slightly short and had the weirdest off-season ever so I am not that surprised some didn't improve as much as we all hoped.

If all return next year Towns is the guy I think has the tools to make that big jump in confidence and production.

My concerns in order....Defense, Defense, Defense, Defense, Defense, then a career sub 30% 3 point shooter who is very effective in the post hoisting way too many deep 3's, another rotation player who is soft as Charmin, then the backup bigs (simply because there aren't dominant bigs to deal with).

4 possessions....two turnovers and two missed shots from inside 5 feet where her nearly broke the backboard. No feel on the court. It's not getting better.

The struggle is real and continues against #Miami

Hopefully Foster gets healthy and can play 5 meaningful minutes per game at some point this season.

Looks like Boals has had enough as well. No PT in second half.

I would much rather see Granger and McMurray getting Rifen's minutes at this point but I also feel for the kid. You can tell he's frustrated and in his own head. His fadeaway he made last night was actually a nice little play and I think his offensive foul on the postup was a bogus call and a nice move. I think he's salvageable but man, he just messes up at both ends a ton!

He seems a little slow but he’s a big body guy. Also, it’s probably the highest level of basketball he’s played. I see him able to get to probably 6 ppg and 6 rbg type of player off the bench next year

I thought he got a really tough whistle early on. The offensive foul as mentioned then the carry on the next possession was actually forced by a good bump when he meant to put that one up.

Freshmen should be given tremendous amounts of leash, given the circumstances in which they've joined the team.

I agree -- Rifen definitely seems like he's in his own head. I think we are seeing Boals play a bunch of guys because of COVID. They have to be game ready in case someone has to sit out. Under normal circumstances, I think some of these guys see less PT and the rotation is smaller.

Can't play Rifen another minute. Wilson is going to have to find a way to play 37 minutes a game and go small when he needs a breather.
