This team really gutted it out today.
When you add in that this was a road game the boys proved to themselves they can win on the road.
Sears is the real deal.
When JP comes back we will be in great shape @ the point. As we all know the point position is the most important position in the college game.

All five starters in double figures.

Not much from the bench.

Both teams with more assists than turnovers, some good hoops being played.

Love the rotation we'll have on the perimeter with JP, Sears, Ben Rod., McDay. A bit concerned with the rotation on the inside behind Wilson and BVP.

Hoping Tues. game makes it on ESPN+. Looks like CBSSN is showing Friday's game from Toledo. I really appreciate the respect CBSSN gives MAC teams, football and basketball. Our games are not 2 or 3-hour commercials for ACC basketball or big10 football games like they are on espn.

Based on Sears play today, dividing up 120 minutes between 5 guys (Preston, Sears, McDay, Roderick and Brown) will be interesting. Even the announcers said that McDay is "consistent."

Nice to play a game where the other team has fewer made FTs than we have made FGs.

Great effort at both ends. 55% from the floor, almost 40% from three, 24-19 on defensive rebs.

Sears is a real find. The main difference between him and Preston is that he doesn't take over a game like Preston can, but that's probably a matter of confidence.

Troublesome that they blew a 15-pt lead. They left too many BSU players get open threes. But they responded nicely, outscoring BSU by 11 over the last 13 minutes.

I thought the charging foul on McDay when he was trying a three from the corner at about the 10-minute mark was bogus. The ref signaled that McDay tripped the defender during the shot but the replay showed the guy fell down on his own.

We played basically a six-man rotation. Only Brown got a lot of minutes off the bench (22). Mixed results for him: three turnovers and only two pts but six rebs.

Sears is impressive at the point, but the kid needs to develop an outside shot to keep the D honest. Not going to be able to just dribble drive forever. He's got a good stroke from the FT line so it's within him to develop.

I think this is what ultimately limits his minutes when Preston is on the floor b/c, as good as he is - and he looked like the real deal today, it's pretty hard to play a guy shooting 10% from beyond the arc at the SG spot and he's not unseating JP as the starting PG.

I think the whole "Ohio's going to get Sears AND Preston together!" is wishful thinking otherwise. He may just have to wait his turn to be the PG of the future.

We definitely have some talent on offense.
Our defense is, in one word, terrible.

CBS lost SEC football to ESPN starting in 2024, so CBS might have more cash to spend on G5 sports. Look for them to snatch up some B10 or B12 football but that shouldn't cost as much as the SEC did. ESPN might not be able to spend so much on other conferences, especially G5s. The deal with the SEC is expected to cost them $300 million a year.

I LOVE this win and by no means want to go negative but as a huge fan I want to know why Foster, Miguel and Towns are on the No Play list and Granger is now a 10 minute guy and McMurray is our other sub. I like Granger and McMurray but what happened with Rifen and Sam?

Sears needs to play 20 to 25 points a game NOW either at the point or the two/three guard. If he gets less than 10 minutes a game this year and with Preston coming back, he may very well be gone after this year. A kid with his talent is going to sit for two years.

Respectfully, the announcers on CBS talked about and said he was a Hargrave guy and talked about his relationship with Coach Martin. He is going nowhere. I may be dead wrong but from all I have seen on Twitter and read he seems very happy and thankful to be here. I think the lament that he needs to hone his skills with outside shooting is correct.

Analytically though, there is ample room in Brown's and Mc Day's time to share but the real challenge is to find a place for Sears when both PGs are ball handling assist makers. Preston has been decent from 3 but you can't make an SG out of him and Sears is definitely not a shooter from deep. I have the feeling Sears is willing to bide his time and be disciplined about the wait.

Agree about Sears needing 20-25 minutes (not points)/game. Maybe give him 10 minutes while JP rests (as oppose to 3 minutes of rest per game last year) and find 10-15 min with both of them on the floor at the same time. Your best players need the most minutes and Sears is too good not to get minutes.

Boals is in a unique position, one all coached would like, having 2 strong point guards.
I am sure he is quite pleased with his find in Sears.
