Just noticed that no less than 5 WMU players plan to transfer out. Find this odd because I thought their new coach was elevated from an assistant coaching position because that's what the players wanted.

Bobcats MUST keep Jason and BVP
Will Ryan will come after Ben- Green Bay close to his home but will is a plus for us as he is BADD
Jason- got to keep pro agents away from him

Hopefully someone is talking to Dwight Wilson and telling him that he should stay one more year and get a Sports Admin MBA degree...

I could be reading the situation dead wrong, but I just think BVP and JP have so much love for this university and program that I just don't see them leaving. JP is more of a concern for me than BVP. A week ago, I didn't think he would get the grade from NBA scouts to come out. But after MAC tourney run and if he has a big next weekend...who knows. I don't see how he at least doesn't go through the process to get feedback.

Hard not to daydream about next year with the entire starting five returning....hopefully. My big question is about Wilson. I haven't heard anything from him concerning his status for next year on what he wants to do. You know Boals will call all three into the office when season is over and say fellas....if you liked what happened this year...just wait and see what you can accomplish in 2021-2022 if we all stick around for one more year.

My only guess would be that Wilson knew two years in Athens was a real possibility because he didn't know he would be eligible this season until the last minute.

Good thought Turney and hope you are right.

Gotta expect players going into the portal or testing the NBA draft. Four of the MAC best guards did just that last year and all returned. BG's Turner, UB's Graves, BSU's El Amin, and UT's Jackson either looked into transferring or entering the draft before deciding return.

I wouldn't be against a Bobcat player or two moving on like some did last year as long as it's not one of the rotation players. This will allow Boals to potentially upgrade our roster.

And speaking of Boals, do we have to worry about him moving up for a bigger salary?

My gut says not YET. That all changes if we win a couple games in Indy or if he gets us back to the dance next year though. Then we definitely worry.

In such a scenario, you'd think Ohio has a better shot of retaining him than it did for Groce, right?

Better? Absolutely. He's an alum and has legit ties and emotions to Athens. That said the right school with the right $ amount still trumps all that IMO.

He's not John Groce but he's not Larry Hunter either. Even Danny Nee moved on from Athens.

If Boals stays Preston and BVP will probably stay. From the AP story (maybe others) on last night's game:

Preston and Vander Plas, who both considered leaving Ohio after a coaching change was made following the 2019 season, said Boals has delivered on every promised he's made.

Now, they're champions.

“We love Jeff Boals,” Preston said.

“Love that guy,” added Vander Plas.

As an aside, has anyone wondered what this year would have looked like if Jason Carter had stayed? I have watched Xavier play a couple of times this year and though he was a starter all year he was not a factor in their offense. Ah what might have been.

Their fans aren't too hot on him.
