I see all these colleges naming their court after a previous coach.
Does anyone know why we have not named our court for a former coach?

Snyder perhaps - but probably too long ago to make sense.

No one else deserves such an honor.

Should have been named "Jim Snyder Court a long time ago. Bill Rohr dropped the ball on this.

The 50th anniversary of his last game is coming up in three years so you'd probably have to educate some of the youngsters as to his accomplishments. Most wins by an Ohio coach (355), most MAC wins by an Ohio coach (176), most MAC titles by an Ohio coach (7), an Elite Eight appearance (1964), Sweet 16 appearance (1960). His integrated team beat an all-white Kentucky team to get to the Elite Eight in 1964. Haven't found how his wins and championships rank in the MAC.

EDIT: Found the MAC record book. He's tenth in winning percentage in MAC games, ninth in winning percentage in all games, third in number of MAC wins, tied for second (with Charlie Coles) in number of wins in all games.

ADDITIONAL EDIT: It looks like his seven MAC championships is the most in history. The MAC record book had nothing on this but I found a database that listed MAC titles by coach. Only Steve Hawkins of WMU had more (8) but he had only two NCAA tourney appearances. The other six appear to be division titles. So I think we're safe saying that Coach Snyder has the most MAC championships of any coach all-time.

In all fairness, court naming after individuals is a rather recent phenomena and Rohr was gone less than 5 years after Snyder retired.

Somewhat related to that, here's a list of the arena names for D 1 basketball schools. Lots of Convocation Centers in the MAC.

Aren't we like seven years removed from announcing we would sell the naming rights to the Convo and Peden?

AEP Ohio Convocation Center?

As for the court, Snyder is the only name worthy.

The playing court would need to be replaced after two years.

Courts are named after someone that helped build / define the program -- impacted the program. Who says it needs to be a coach (administrator? Announcer?) -- Who else would make sense (if anyone)?

I see no reason that it couldn't be, and the stats that Pataskala dug up seem to indicate that it's really a no-brainer.
