Do you shutter to think where we'd be if he had to sit out this season as we thought he very well may have had to do?

A couple wins probably turn to losses without Wilson. He has been great this year.

Or BVP would be back in the post and playing the role he had last year and being more productive.

7-7 FGS in first half.
0-0 FGS in second half.

Weird. Feed the man.

Unlike in the past, when I got annoyed by it, I now chuckle that you always seem to have at least one player on the squad who is your little punching bag to criticize for the season.

I can't be the only one thinking this. It's just the truth. Right now....it's a swing and a miss and it hurts more when it's a JUCO player. It is what it is.

Ed Sears was a JuCU, had a sub par year, redshirted then had a great year. Don’t forget this year doesn’t even count. Oh ye of fickle heart.

As raw as Ed Sears was, he was light years ahead of Rifen at this same stage. Hopefully Rifen can improve his game like Ed did. Sears was a factor under the hoop with blocking shots. Haven't seen much of that from Rifen....yet.

I do think you're one of the very few who focuses so much on it.

Right now, I'm not remotely concerned about it. From my Wednesday morning couch coaches chair, the competition for spots is much greater than it was 3 years ago. I'm good with that.

Also, he had offers from 14-15 other schools, so if it's truly a "swing and miss", then 14-15 others did as well.

It'd be great if someone, everyone, would to be able to talk Dwight into staying another year. Selfishly I'd love to see another year of him in Athens.

Selfishly, I agree. I want to see him, and this group, return intact for next year so that they get what they deserve: Playing in front of crowds in The Convo. (Hopefully)

I have been thinking the same thing. As of now we have A.J. Clayton coming in. He is 6-9 and very slender. I know he plays for a smaller, very unsuccessful program near Zanesville so his stats are good and I heard he's decent in the summer circuit. I worry though that he is too much like McMurray or Granger in that he will need time to develop. If we keep our personnel and only lose Dwight we will be hurting something fierce if Granger, Foster, Miguel, Clayton or McMurray can't make a jump. It would be a shame to have so many guards and no one to rebound/pass to inside.

Yes that concern is there if he leaves, but there's also nothing wrong with playing 4 guards all the time and adjusting to that personnel group.

I have to believe one more year in Athens would help Dwight significantly with $$$ overseas. I have to think he can be a player over there and make some money.

He may be 6'9" but he's truly not a post player. So not even in same conversations.

Against Ball St., Miami, WMU (3 recent examples) it didn't hurt playing 3 guards, sometime 4.

It most certainly had a negative effect v. Kent 's frontline of 6-9 Pippen, 6-7 Beck, 6-11 Hamilton. And I'm guessing it will Friday v. a UB frontline of 6-7 Mballa, 6-11 Bertram and 6-5 Williams (Mballa plays a lot bigger than 6-7).

My take on our current roster: it's good enough to beat the bottom half of the league but to compete with the MAC elite it's in need of an upgrade. I'm not sure how that is done with 0 scholarships to give.

Even worse then. We already have Towns as a skinny 6-8 tweener. We have McMurray at 6-8 as a tweener and we have BVP on the perimeter. That would leave Rife, Foster and Granger next year in the middle. I like four guards and think we could do it except Sears and Brown are 6-1 and McDay 6-3. Not exactly rebounding giants.

He clearly was prepared to stay in Athens for 2 years, given until late November he was still not cleared to play this season. I think there is a decent chance he takes advantage of the bonus year of eligibility, which would be HUGE for next year's team.

Did the ESPNU announcer compare Wilson to Charles Oakley last night? Or was it Rick Mahorn? I can't remember for sure but if it was Mahorn I know for sure he didn't compare BVP to Bill Laimbeer, giving the Bobcats our own version of the Bad Boys.

Oh with the transfer portal available now and the ever present itch to move on, I won’t be surprised to see a few spots on the roster become open after this season. Won’t also be surprised if a few of those open spots are created by a couple of frontline guys looking for enhanced opportunities elsewhere. It seems to be quite in vogue in today’s athletic world.

Bobcat Sports....I agree with your thoughts on some players moving on, especially since their talent level is not enough to see the court in Athens.
And we all know who they are.
