YouTube followed that clip up for me with the auto suggestion of "Jon Sanderson dunks during Winning Team/Losing Team". Makes me wonder if we'll ever see anything like that atmosphere in the Convo ever again.

I have my doubts. The apathy by the student body was overwhelming before Covid, towards the b-ball program. If the brain trust hadn’t moved the 110 into the stands a few years back that side of the Convo would have really looked deserted. I think it will take a really, really special team to generate much excitement or following amongst the students anytime soon. Sure hope I’m wrong on this one.Truth be told the Ozone had morphed into the NOzone in recent years.

Have wondered if things would be different if DLowe were still here working in the athletic department. I have to think the Ozone might still be around or at least we'd have a better shot of it being here.

Why limit it to just the Ozone? Gang, I think ALL sports are going to be challenged to duplicate the attendance numbers and atmosphere for several years after the pandemic. Not just at Ohio, or in the MAC, but everywhere.

Who knows, things go in and out of style so much over history. Right now though, it doesn't seem possible and it's heartbreaking to think about.

Covid aside, the whole concept of fan support for sports,at least on the pro level has changed.

They were talking about this on WFAN last week.

Between Fantasy Leagues and legalized sports betting,at least in N.J.,fan support for particular teams is dwindling, especially among younger fans.

One host said his kids have no interest in any particular team.
Only players on their fantasy teams or how what's happening in a particular game affects their bets.

I don't think attendance numbers are at much risk. Have a competent, watchable team with a legit shot to win the conference, and I still think it's fair to expect at least 8,000 or so for a Saturday game. Have magical season like Buffalo or Western Michigan football and the games become a hot ticket.

What I do think has shifted are young people's approach to enthusiasm and creativity. I made a comment on the reddit college basketball board last year after an exciting overtime Kent/Buffalo game that was on national TV. The student section was full but the kids pretty much sat on their hands. Even some fans of Big Ten and SEC teams agreed that they've seen a similar shift in their games as well.

The transition to college sports as a commodity is complete. There are no more fans, only customers. Customers will ever only get so excited about a product.

I'll admit, this is precisely how I feel about college football. I look at it as how I spend my entertainment dollars, not being a fan. I'm not there for college hoops, and a few other teams/sports, but I am for college football.

I'm not sure the Ozone has been the same since Brufus graduated (not sure how much he posts on here anymore), but I know he did his best to lead the Ozone in spite of people like Alan Swank wanting to play rent-a-cop

I miss that Convo logo in the paint.

I don’t have bandwidth to watch any sporting event on TV in its entirety anymore, so I’m not going to scold college students. I just sit there realizing I’d rather be doing about a dozen other things. They are still useful to work out to.

I still love live, in-person sporting events, though. That will never lose its appeal for me.

Same. And I love a dude randomly coming back to be bitter about something a decade ago.
