Figure out their press already. This isn't Shaka and VCU.
And a full court inbound lob not the way to do it....

Don’t think we can read much into this one. My god is CMU awful. Roster filled with D3 level talent and lower guys.

Like many MAC teams, this is not a CMU team from the 1970s, 80s, or 90s.

Speaking of, I wonder who a long-time CMU fan would say is the best Chippewa basketball player? Dan Majerle and Dan Roundfield both had nice NBA careers. But I might go with Sugar McLaughlin. After all, neither Majerle nor Roundfield are members of the Gus Macker Hall of Fame. I remember seeing McLaughlin score over 30 points in a game in the Convo.

Jack FT: 9-12

Rest of Team: 13-21

How are we so consistently bad at free throws? Every year.

Hadaway came even closer with 13 pts, 11 reb, and 6 assists.

Two teams combined to shoot 4-33 (Ohio 4-20, CMU 0-13) from three.

I'll take that 80 - 64 MAC road W all day long.

Jack is gonna need back surgery by February the way he's carrying this team. Hadaway had a nice game with a double-double though. JJ Kelly with 15 on 7-10 shooting.

Kuany with only 7 minutes. Did he get hurt?

4-20 from 3? Holy Shit. CMU didn't make a single 3? Was there a breeze or something?

Unfortunately, Kuany looked very sloppy out there today. Conners as well. Boals understandably had a very short leash with both of them today.

Both looked horrible from the moment they hit the floor. I'd be ok if Conners never saw meaningful min the rest of the way.

Kuany is a redshirt freshman and was known to be a project all along.

Conners was supposed to be a finished product. A veteran transfer guard.

Any road win is a good win, but man there are a lot of shooters on this team and not a lot of makers.

Speaking of Makers...

It's a road victory and it wasn't close.

Funny you should ask. I noticed a large ceiling fan in McGuirk today. Not sure if I've ever noticed that since I started watching games on TV from Mt. Pleasant 40-plus years ago. Not sure if I've ever seen that at any other arena now that I think about it.

But CMU's 0% from deep was worse (moral victory prize).

They could lose a jump shooting contest to the blind school.

Good second half at least enough to pull out the road win.

What I would like to see more of:

1. Better ball control/securing
2. Sharper/focused passing and receiving
3. Slashing and getting those sharper/focused passes - in particular JJ getting more off those especially
4. More made FT's, less taken 3's
5. Simmons (who has only couple inches vertical) using body and feet to draw more FT's vs opposing bigs (most just "talls" not so much "big" vs Simmons)
6. More movement by all on floor on offense

I think all above achievable w/focused coaching and demanding execution of all.

We have a lot of good pieces just need to get them sharpened up!

Yup - Majerle and Roundfield were great and I got to see Majerle put on a show in the convo but Kaman was also major legit...

I know that was directed at me.

Bottom line. Pavs has improved and is playing well. Elliott has regressed (hopefully its just the injury) and has been a massive disappointment.

But yes, sorry for previously being in the mindset of wanting to be a MAC championship contender and trying to optimize lineups to compete against a P4 in the NCAA tournament.

Thats no longer us. At this point I just hope we finish above 500 in the MAC amd find a way to make it to Cleveland. Those are massive expectation shifts.

Pavs is perfectly fine for the latter.

Players not named Sheldon or Pavs went a combined 0-23. Zero for twenty three. I've seen church league ball better.

I think we might disagree on what optimize means.

You're absolutely spot on with #1. The entire team needs to be stronger with the ball in their possession. Wayyyyy too many tipped passes/knock aways/loose balls, especially with a team of CMU's caliber. I think if they can improve that, the rest of your list will improve, it all starts with fundamental ball control.
