Agreed. Wish him the best. It can only be a good thing if guys from our program excel at elite programs. But I'm less bullish on AJB than Sears, and suspect he's just gonna be a shooter off the bench.

Insane. I'll be the first to eat crow but if he averages more than 10 min a game I'll be thoroughly shocked.

That being said, hope he got his money.
I'll tune into Florida games. I hope he stays healthy and realizes his potential. Could be a fun tandem with Xavien Lee.

I like him playing with his brother, just wish it was in Athens. Hope he gets a chance to shine. You know he will periodically turn some heads in practice.

For sure.

There will be games where he comes in hot and people take notice.

Another situation where we should lean into it. OU is developing guys and getting them on National Title contenders. Is Toledo? Is Akron? Come here instead.

Professional soccer does this with "loans" all of the time. Makes a lot of sense to lean into this & market your players "moving" up.

I will eat crow as well on this. Wish AJB well, but I'd be shocked if he averages 6 PPG for as long as he's a Gator.

Surprised that he ended up at Florida. I know I'm in the minority here, but anyone who leaves OHIO before graduation and transfers to another school is lost to me. Now, a graduate transfer like Kurtis Rourke in football or BVP in basketball, that's another story and in a different category to me. I can root for them at their new school. But, these UG portal transfers leave a bad taste in my mouth. OK, I'm Old School. I've been called worse. Even right here on BA!

Did any of your freshman or sophomore dorm mates transfer or drop out? Did they get dismissed by you as well? I guess they need to change that speech they give to incoming freshmen - "look to the person in front of you. Behind you. To your side. At least one of those people will not be here in 4 years. They might as well be dead to you."

I raised this as an approach in one of the many "$9 million for a buy in game or else" threads - adapt or die.

Reading social media from Gator fans and you think they are getting Michael Jordan here. Not one mention of injuries all three years at Ohio. Truly wish AJB well, but he's not a slam dunk in terms of being a major contributor for the Gators moving forward. I hope he proves me wrong as he was a good teammate who truly seemed to like Athens.

What about DJ Cooper? Or Gary Trent? They didn't graduate while they were on campus.

Back in the day, as you know, that expression meant that those who would be missing in four years would have flunked out. It was an expression that tried to impress upon young minds that college was tough and that you'd have to study hard to succeed. Is that anything like the message that today's coddled college kids receive?

Not many of us would turn down the kind of life changing money he likely got to go play at the highest level school. It still sucks as a fan though and feels almost impossible to build a multi year team anymore.

and over time it became more than that. I had multiple freshmen friends that left ohio - in good standing - just wasn't right for them. my son started at Louisville but graduated from Charlotte. point is students are moving around today more than ever - for a lot of reasons. Im not going to fault them, nor, therefore can I fault an athlete moving - especially given today's rules.

But not all these changes represent real progress, IMHO.

“progress” is subjective and in each individual’s perspective (southern whites did not feel the civil rights act was progress) but that’s a rabbit hole

simple question. do you have an issue with a student leaving ohio for another university because the latter offers a better academic program than what is offered at Ohio and therefore makes them more marketable?

Same here. Rooting for him, hope he does well, plays 30 minutes a game and wins 30 games, and dominates. He seems to have left on good terms, after all. Just not seeing it, though.

Of course it's a subjective judgement. That's why I ended that sentence with IMHO.

In answer to your question: I don't object to that scenario if it's based on a realistic assessment rather than a whim or some inaccurate rationalization. If you remember your thought processes at that age they weren't always extremely sound based on sober, after-the-fact analysis years later. This why you need guidance from reliable mentors, not some agent who is in it for the money and could care less about you as a person. Sports is an extracurricular activity. But in today's college atmosphere that's turned upside down. "I don't come here to play no school." This is a paradigm that cannot last indefinitely.

Concur. His success is part our success - if we do this right.

OU congratulated Rourke in several posts this weekend. No reason to be sour grapes. It is what it is. Like I've said a billion times, I'd rather have them for a little bit than to not have them at all.

Good luck, kid! Hope you explode on the scene. Just remember us fondly when you speak on Athens.

Side note to that... we WANT these kids to leave here with only incredible things to say. It's a small circle. "Hey I was thinking about transferring, what do you think of..."

I want rumors of OU being a glorious, distraction free meca to spread. Boals is a players coach who gets the most of his guys. Send us your huddled masses.
