More talk about Gonzaga by their fans than Ohio in the only game thread I could find on their boards. They seem to be worried about teams with good guards. I've only seen them play twice this year and that was against Gonzaga and Kent. Not trying to equate us with Gonzaga but the Zags used one thing we have in common with them, good ball movement, to confound the Cavs.

I'm wondering if we were put on TruTV despite being likely a big matchup due to the questionable status of the game. Of all teams right now, it sounds like UVA is the most in jeopardy of playing.

Our game was featured on the Axios Sports daily rundown as one of their 5 "Games To Watch" in the 1st Round:

No. 13 Ohio vs. No. 4 Virginia: The Bobcats have a stud point guard and nearly beat Illinois. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers won't arrive in Indy until Friday, with most of the roster in quarantine.

Does the MAC still get a win share if UVA has to forfeit? I'd assume yes.

As of last night, saw an interview with Tony Bennett who claimed no team practices and likely none leading up to tournament due to quarantine. Healthy players have been doing individual workouts and getting up shots but that's it.

Edit to add they've been doing team meetings via Zoom as well.

You would think that would a problem but we seemed to have handled it well leading up to the MAC tourney.

Some other things to think about for this tournament:

* If Virginia (or other teams for that matter) only is able to bring 5-6 players, how does that affect officiating? Is it consistent with the rest of the tournament (as I think it should be).

* If Virginia is unable to field a team, how will the replacement for our game be determined? Even though I’m hearing Louisville is the first replacement, how would it be determined where they (and any others in this situation) go if there are other teams that must drop out at (or before) the 6:00 PM Thursday deadline. Are the next teams put in a hat to draw where they go. Is it based on when the teams report before the deadline? This may end up being a coaches preparation nightmare and perhaps especially for us since Virginia seems to be the most at risk per what reports we know about.

These are just some things that come to my mind. I’m sure many of the rest of you have others.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Due to guidance from their local health officials, Assembly Hall is limiting attendance to 204 tickets per team plus 100 UI Health Care workers and will not be offering any general public ticket sales.

Boals was on 92.3 The Fan this morning and had an interesting tidbit.

Ben (Bennett) Vander Plas was named after Tony Bennett. Ben's dad and Tony were teammates at Wisconsin-Green Bay.

I hope to God we don't have to play in Bloomington again after our victory against UVA? 500 tickets alllowed when there are thousands available for similar size arenas in Indianapolis? The genuises that came up that decree are probably the same ones in Bloomington who allow the Kinsey Institute to operate . God help us! Being the optimist that I am, our game against Gonzaga will probably be played in Lucas Oil Stadium. Surely, we could tickets for that miraculous upset!

That is very interesting. So he is basically coaching against his best friend's kid.

Well we’re not going to sneak in and beat somebody. I’d rather just slip in under the radar than get all this love. Bilas is off the chart on Preston. I’m just hoping Virginia is rusty with no practices for 2 weeks.

I'll take all the love we can get. It will help with recruiting/transfer portal. If we have a player leave for any reason I could see Boals hitting the transfer portal hard. I don't think Clayton, our only signee, will be ready to contribute quickly. As for Virginia, I think JP can take Clark at guard..it's the 7-footer Huff, 6-8 Hauser and Abdur-Rahim's kid that I worry about inside since we have no size depth.

Is Clayton planning on coming next year? I've only heard speculation from people on this board, but nothing concrete.

The odd thing is their front court guys are their perimeter shooters not the guards.

It also should be noted that Bennett said that one player will not be available for the first two rounds. No idea who it is and probably won't know until game time.

He reclassified as a senior this year to graduate high school a year early. There was a story on him when he made that decision before hoops season even started. Saw him play twice in person this year. He is a solid kid with very good post moves but he didn't dominate in the league he was in which worries me. I guess he was great on the AAU circuit. He looks to me to be a mix of BVP and Granger with some outside skills if needed but inside moves. I think he'll have time to develop as long as guys like Foster and Towns can contribute next year.

At this rate the media powers that be are going to make Virigina out to be the sympathetic team for dealing with Covid. There probably won't be much coverage of what we have to had to battle through during the course of the season.
