Worried about EJ, must be a bad injury if 3-4 weeks off hasn't brought her back to the court. Maybe they're saving her for tourneytime? Cece hasn't missed a beat but we've got a tough road in Cleveland if Erica can't return.

Not only is Johnson not playing, apparently Caitlin Kroll is out too. Going six deep and down 13 to lowly Akron at the half.
Within 6 now going into Q4. Hooks on a mission.....

Down 6 going into the fourth. Cece looks really exhausted, as do most of the Cats.

Damn - Get the lead then Hooks goes down with cramp with 2.5 minutes left and turnovers blow it. Great comeback effort though.

Down Kroll and Johnson and down 13 at half, they took the lead in the 4th quarter. Then Bambule goes out with a possible concussion, then Hooks needed out with a cramp. And they were still in it in the last minute.

This team's injury luck is worse than anything Saul ever faced. And yet I still give us a shot against anyone in the league.

Give CeCe POTY already.

Lots of reasons for the loss, turnovers, free throw shooting, Cece's calf cramp, uncontested layup misses, but interesting that Kron won the game late with midrange jump shots. Cats don't take midrange jumpers.

Tough loss, but with a win over Miami, the Cats should lock up the three seed and if CM loses they could get the two seed.

Can't expect much with the state of the roster. No Johnson. No Kroll. Guice out for the year. They fought hard, but too many shots falling for Akron and too many mistakes from our side.

That's an interesting point. I hadn't thought of that, but you are right. We do layups, close range shots and threes and not often anything in between.

Analytically, mid-range jumpers are the worst shot to take. The percentage made is not much higher than 3-pointers, which are worth 1.5 times more, and the percentage made is significantly less than shots near the basket, where you also have a much higher probability of drawing fouls, which has added value.

If you think about this they are currently down 5 of the top 7 players we hoped to have 12 months ago. Only Hooks and Burris have played full time.

Katie Barker - Graduated and chose not to play her senior year
Deesh Beck - Entered the transfer pool in the middle of this season
Peyton Guice - Out for the year
Erica Johnson & Kaitlin Kroll - Currently injured

Cece Hooks is probably staking her claim to MAC POY and the emergence of younger players like Madi Mace has kept the team in the upper division on the MAC. If Johnson can get healthy Ohio has two of the better women's players outside of the P6 and still do some damage. Less people follow the women's team but this almost goes down with the 2012 football team if it hadn't had the worst luck in injuries of any team I can think of and the 2013 basketball team if Groce had stayed and kept his recruiting class in terms of what could have been in recent Ohio athletics.

Erica subbed in during first half and has made a big difference, so good to see her back. Not wearing a brace or sleeve either.

She was in a zone again today. They know she won't shoot over the top yet she still explodes by the defender. She's a blur. And her hands and reflexes have made her one of the top players nationally in steals the last few years.A gem to watch.

If she could play another year here, or go overseas and play, develop a jump shot or at least get better accuracy with her 3 pointers, then she could make a serious play for the WNBA.

P.S. That's 5 straight wins against the foreskins (I mean the redskins, I mean the redhawks, whatever).

#3 Ohio plays #6 Ball State on Wednesday. The teams split their two regular season games.

The Bobcats' tournament chances took a real jump with the return of Erica Johnson. Especially in the fourth quarter, she and Hooks displayed the connection that made them the top guard duo in the league. Johnson looked very comfortable shooting threes, and was +22, tops on the team today.

And she prolly Forced another 10 turnovers beyond the steals. A Gem to watch!

That was great to see. Not to jink her, but, as TOS would say, she has WNBA talent! ;-)

She’s a hell of a lot closer to the actual NBA than Bota ever was.

Ten steals is just amazing, not to mention the points and assists. Hooks is a great player.

Cece is a fabulous college basketball player. But all those layups aren't going to be as easy in the WNBA where the average player is 3-4 inches taller, and her three point shooting isn't going to keep defenders close to her on the perimeter to open up driving lanes. Her WNBA ticket would be mainly as a defender and a point guard dishing dimes, we'll have to see if GMs recognize those talents.

Cece's performance was one of the all time greatest in Convo history.

I understand the analytics, and predicted a response like this one when I wrote my message. But I have to wonder about overall skill development for players who only look for layups and threes, and from a pure viewing standpoint the game is less beautiful IMHO. I also wonder if good coaches find they can defend teams more easily who don't look to shoot from the midrange holes in zones. I must admit I'm not big on analytics taking precedence over more traditional thinking. I'm also sitting in an arm chair in my living room and have a great deal of respect for Bolden.
